ICE vs EV companies that cram the biggest battery pack they can to achieve power. Even the Chinese are making fast EVs when they can't build an ICE to save themselves. Even the Vietnamese have an EV car being sold here in America. Basically a battle of who can put the biggest battery in car, boring. 4 cylinders, inline 6s, V8s, V6s, flat 4s, V10s, V12s, or flat 6s used to define a car, a brand. The Japanese were building high revving inline 4, the Italians with their V12s, America with V8s, Porsche with flat 6s, BMW with inline 6s. You had pushrods, HEMI, DOHC, boxers, turbos, even rotaries, and W16s. So man varieties to chose from. The future, basically what battery pack do you want? The electric motors are practically the same, the car is full of gimmicks to use as a selling point, and only battery packs and gimmicks differentiate one from another. How did society get so boring?
I drive a BP Mazda3 hatchback with AWD, not a fast car at all. But with just a K&N and stickier P Zero tires, it's a blast to drive on the 10 mile back roads to work after getting off the highway. You get a throaty inline 4 with the intake noise and can use all the power without worrying about losing control on a tight bend. I'm pretty sure it's better on those back roads than most of these over powered and overweight EV, while still being one of the cleanest gas powered non hybrid on the road and getting 38. 6mpg (US) on 87 octane. It's also 3x less to insure and maintenance is cheap than the cheapest Tesla. Been driving for 20+ years now and I can't imagine myself driving an EV. It's too artificial and missing the man and machine connection.

Lucid admits the 2 motor performance will not get the best performance because the front motor loses traction and the rear motor cannot recover enough power. The new tri-motor lucid sapphire adds only around 100 hp but puts two motors in the rear and gives a considerable boost in performance because front wheel slipping does not impact performance significantly due to weight bias and more rear horsepower. Seen these Sapphires run low 9's all day and have a higher top speed. Problem is price adds 70, 000 to an already expensive EV.

The issue with this lucid air is that upon launch, the front wheels struggle to maintain contact due to the weight shifting to the rear; while this gives excellent grip for the rear electric motor (allowing it to produce maximum power, the front motor has little grip to work with, to which the car decides to limit power from the front motors due to its lack of grip to put the power down.

I mean, that's exactly what you'd expect before watching the video. The Turbo S as always, leaves everyone in the dust at the start, but then cause it doesn't have that much horsepower (650 usually is a lot, but in the supercar/hypercar world it is not) the cars with significantly more horsepower just catch up at higher speeds. That was the case the last 10 times and it is now: D

I''ve been watching many Porsch 911 drag race on carwow. Porche just delivers every time, no fail and always pulls really nicely every launch. of course against another car with more power like this is understandable that is loses, but Porshce is never far behind. In real world, first acceleration is very important

Mat, congratulations for building what? A 1111 HP car that beat a 650 HP one? What are you talking about? Take a Brabus with 900 HP, and then we'll see. Anyway even if it lost the race, gimme that Porsche and you can keep that electric crap. oops car. car? Thanks for the video Mat, Porsche forever!

The day 911 HUL departs will be a sad day, it s literally the CarWow benchmark car. I m always impressed to see that thing just launch perfectly every single time without the slightest complaint. And again, despite the power and torque deficit, it and Yanni still put in a respectable performance.

They should include a single race but without launch control on both cars (more true to life like for ex. at a stop light where you can t reasonably use and time a launch control.
Unfortunately it would look much less pretty even for a turbo S against an electric car.

Things that suck about EVs:
1) they're all ugly as sin
2) totally soulless
3) heavy as an Abrams tank
4) promise of ease of charging was a lie
5) #1 again
6) mileage ranges were also BS

This isn't even the most powerful Lucid Air, the Lucid Air Sapphire has more power and probably also better tires and a better launch control bc in other videos the Sapphire launches MUCH harder.

I think we can all agree that power numbers became pointless and meaningless nowadays, it s just a marketing stunt to get hooked the kids and the uninitiated.
P. s.: with some exceptions of course.

2 things to say:
- The Turbo S is a beast of a car and quick as fckn hell + a racing machine
- The Lucid Air is a full size family sedan and still beats the Porsche
That race was insane!

I m a bit over drag races with one trick pony EVs. Can we do an up and back race? Just show these EVs a corner. I am looking for to the GT2 RS with electric assist.

Mat: I have a drive system warning.
Yanni: did you mess something up in that last race
Mat: it did well. (for a car with a drive system warning. )
