It s time for the all-new BMW M2 to go head-to-head against the M240i! Now before getting into the stats you d be forgiven for assuming the M2 would walk this. After all, the M240i is effectively a BMW M2 lite, right? Well, this one may be closer than you think So let s see how they compare. First up we have the M240i. It s powered by a 3-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine that can produce 374hp and 500Nm of torque. This power is delivered to all four wheels, and it weighs in at 1, 690kg. If you re looking to pick one up, it ll cost around 49, 000. Then we have the BMW M2. It comes with the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as found in the latest M3, but the output has been dialled down slightly, so it ll produce 460hp and 550Nm of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheels only, and it tips the scales at 1, 725kg. If you re looking to buy one new, it ll set you back around 65, 000.

m2 is obviously a stronger platform with better features for track driving, but it s way heavier that a sport car should be with impact on handling, and costs of operation: bigger brakes, wheels, more powerful engine required. Also it s not built to be good at drag racing otherwise it would ve definitely been awd, although that most people want, there is a chance based on that, BMW will continue only with cars that do well at drag racing

Just wanted to put it out there that Autoid is a terrible company. Bought some carbon parts for my M2, they were absolutely terrible quality, bad fitment, lots of flaws in the carbon weave, and Autoid ignored all my messages afterwards when they answered immediately before.
We attached the parts to the wheeled rubbish bin at the garage, that is about what they were good for.

Interesting, I asked many people as a pole which motor is superior and I was told that the s58 was a proper m motor and that it is far superior for racing. But as it stands it seems that it only shines in top end and sucks in a dig. Now I m sure there is some special trick or simply human error but this man drives cars for a living.

That M240 looks so much better than the M2, I know it s slightly modified but it just goes to show how a few little mode can transform a car, every single car I ve had, has had subtle mods to transform its looks, I think I d even modify a McLaren 720 a little, I just don t like standard cars from factory, bit boring aren t they!

I believe one overlooked mod to the M240i was its suspension.
The stiffer suspension prevents the M240i's front from lifting much and hence gives the car a lot more 4 wheel grip.
Tyre, suspension and grip sometimes overlooked a bit but it can make quite a significant difference.

He finally did it! Matt thank you for being the only reviewer with some balls to put these two cars against each other
Edit: The m240i can also beat the m2 in a roll. The m240i is hard locked to 155mphs and if you take the hard lock off the car wins.

If those tunes are reliable and that fast, honestly get me that M240i over the M2. Everyone says it s ugly but I think the M240i is better looking then that M2 and if it can be faster on a quarter mile for like a few thousand then we ll get me that puppy

Great race
M240i is a better looking car in my opinion
Tuning box was great
Just show what a Tuning box or remap can make to a car
M240i for me
Not likely to be stolen and cheaper to own and running costs

The M2 and M240i are evenly matched. I would go with the 40i engine. It is a shame BMW have designed the rear end so poorly in sharp contrast to the G30 3 Series which the rear end of the car is designed beautifully

Is anybody awake today or whats going on? The m240i is literally a smidget behind the full fledged m2! Hello? All of you should be 100% impressed. Both look good but the M240i stock just went through the roof
reply

It look the m240i is better value for money than M2, also m340i better value than M3. Better price, better fuel consumption, better low power, less lag, more daily, maybe more reliable 1 turbo vs 2.
reply

I'm sorry but whats the actual point in a M2 when the 20 grand cheaper M240i with a remap is better/equal to + 20k in your sky rocket. It also looks nicer suicide rate of new M2 owners soaring
reply

I'd pick the M240i not only because of AWD but also because B58 mods and parts are so much cheaper than S58 mods. All it needs to get 650whp is a downpipe, tune and Dorch Stage 2. 5 HPFP.

The whole m2 front just does not look good just rectangular shapes with sharp edges, 240i instead has the grill and the edges Smooth like the past gen BM s which look much better
reply

I will buy the m240i and tune it and still be able to save some grands for an m340i the next year and then tune it to beat the m3 for now i will take care of my e class
reply

So an eventuri 20bhp, sports exhaust 15bhp and a piggy back ecu should be more than capable to beat the M2 really. Very close tho and 15k cheaper minus the mods
reply

Damn, these are ugly. Nevertheles, the M340i actually looks ok, when put near the M2. Catastrophic design, too bad for the cars and for the legacy of the 2 series.
reply

This is clearly BMW pulling another M2 OG va M2 Comp type of stunt except this time is not even M vs M.
I m really speechless and disappointed; it s a joke.
