We’ve got our hands on the new McLaren 750S, and it’s about to face off against the glorious 720S! It’ll come as no surprise that both cars are pretty similar under the skin, but let’s compare the stats anyway. Starting with the 720S, it’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 720hp and 770Nm of torque. It’s equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels, and it weighs in at just 1, 419kg. Then we come to the 750S. It’s also powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, and this time it produces (you guessed it) 750hp and 800Nm. It also comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch that sends power to the rear wheels, and it’s a bit lighter than the 720, coming in at 1, 389kg. I really enjoyed this vid
Thanks for sharing Matt. Great to see the differences. Matt I honestly think that after about 11, 000 miles or kilometres here in Australia that our cars get slightly faster or should I say lighter in the acceleration. I find that all my cars from new to the 11, 000 mark make a bit of a difference, maybe everything is bedded in properly in the engine and drivetrian

It's not just about peak power and torque output (which are shown on screen) but also about the progression of the curve itself. If for example you have a car with a huge turbo charger in it with a peak power of 1000hp, it's usually gonan lose in a drag race (and other races, too, just because the peak power is only availabe in a really slim rpm band. The rest of the accelaration process is just trying to overcome turbo lag. So, instead of comparing peak power output, showing the actual power development over the course of the full rpm range would be much more compelling.

How many km on the new 750s What you see is normal. Even if manufacturer now pre break-in the engine, it is still very tight when brand new and it takes a good 10 000 km to loosen it and get the moving parts to fully break-in. The top performance of an engine is at about 10 000km after the oil change. Samething happens with superbikes, and every high performance engines.

I think that the rolling races highlighted the difference in gearing. At the top end the 720s is faster because by having longer gears it can keep running on a lower gear that the 750s, and this creates a torque advantage for the 720s, and at the start of the race the 750s gets ahed because its 3rd gear is shorter than the 720's one

I think taking the tyre issue out of the debate there are two other things that might explain this. The 720 is run in. The 720 was always rumoured to have a lot more than 720 bhp. We might just be looking at two cars with the same horsepower, either way if the 911 Turbo S had been in the race he would have won easily

I like the idea of tyre warmers in the wheel arches, clever thinking. Sounds daft but could work. Also could you consider doing a tyre comparison video as mentioned. Between the top brands and budgets on an everyday car or supercar. Just so we can see the difference between brands, price and conditions. Great video again

McLaren's there an awesome bit of kit and fast no doubt but the difference between the cars in there range is not enough only really the P1 that stands out and even that has simlar styling ques! Come on McLaren mix it up a bit! Give us something new!

It's 720S coupe vs 750S Spider so there's definitely some weight difference there. Coupe vs Coupe would've been smarter. And the 750S does not have an LSD, it is open diff like other McLarens. It is the Artura which comes with an e-differential.

Both incredible cars. Can't go wrong with either. It amazes me just how good those cup 2 tires really are over Pirelli. My 992 came with Pirellis and I definitely have traction issues on them. I have PS4S on my G82 and those were just so sticky.

So basically McLaren introduced a new car that looks 95% the same as the old one, sounds 95% the same as the old one, drives 95% the same as the old one and is named 95% the same as the old one. Rather disappointing if you ask me.

Just can't You let someone else start You over radio on rolling races when driver of 1 car (Matt ussualy; ) ) says go on rolling race he many times is already pushing gas, so that 0, 3-0, 4sec advantage on him already.

Considering how young of manufacturer Mclaren is and that they make all carbon Parts inhouse, they are doing a great job! It simply is part of a manufacturer to have a learning curve and to build expertise.

13, 000 miles in 5 years to me is not driving it! But I guess in the super car world that’s considered a lot of miles. In 2 and 1/2 years I have 54, 000 miles on my non super car Tesla model Y performance.

It kinda looks like each car kept on heat soaking after the repeated runs. I feel like the 750s was suffering from it a lot in the beginning and then in the last few rolls races the 720s started to heat soak as well.

By changing the gearing and I suspect that just changed the DIFF GEAR. LAZY. but just changing that alone gets them their power if your unaware. the rest is cosmetic nonsense at the rear. Pretty sad.
reply

So I believe that the shorter final drive in the 750S is beneficial from a standstill, however it's forced to shift way sooner thus making it easier to fall out of the best part of the power band.

The 720S must have more streamlined aero compared to the new car. It’s interesting to see how subtleties in the aero, tyres, tyre temps and a bit of power and torque can make noticeable differences.
reply

That's the gear ratio that make the difference in those races the 720s is better geared for long distances (roll racing) where as the 750s is geared better for dig racing (1/4mile racing)

I really like that Matt is going at the almost full armdrop now, rather than when the arms are just beginning to drop. A much fairer, and better race. Good One Matt: ) Love your videos.

Am I the only one getting bored of drag races in road cars Every time I see them I just imagine some cuckold beta male boosting about 0-60 times in a car park somewhere.
