The 1996 Chevy Impala SS was a bright spot of the 1990 -- and a star in the General Motors lineup. Today I'm reviewing the '96 Impala SS, and I'm going to show you all around the Impala SS. Then I'm going to drive the Chevy Impala SS and explain what it's like on the road

My parents had a fully loaded Light Adriatic Blue 1994 Caprice Wagon with the towing package. This included upgraded brakes, self leveling air suspension, strengthened frame, oil cooler and transmission cooler, 2. 93: 1 limited slip rear end, and the LT1. I witnessed our completely stock wagon make 282hp / 330 lb-ft to the rubber on the dyno, back when that was necessary for emissions testing. Needless to say, the LT1's power was definitely more than advertised. These are very underrated vehicles in more than one way. Not much else can seat 9 people while towing 7000 pounds behind it. I had never heard about transmission issues with these until very recently. We had no problems with ours for the entire 150, 000 miles we owned it. Doug makes fun of 90s GM quality a lot, but I guarantee these will easily outlast just about everything he's ever owned.

I just finished building a Revell model of this car! Great timing with this video Doug! Was looking for something to do while under quarantine and saw this kit. Something about this car caught my eye. Haven t built a model since I was a teenager. It was a great time putting it together, priming, painting and clear coating it and getting all the small details perfect.

Apply Brake to Shift from Park was relatively & new thing back then. After years of figuring out kids could easily put the car into gear that was added & not at all common. I remember people not having a clue how to put a car in gear & would search for a button to press. Applying the brake to shift into gear was the last thing you'd think to look for.

The doors actually can open much wider. However some people, had trouble reaching the door to close it when fully opened on the earlier Caprice models. So GM installed a pin in the hinge to keep them tighter. You can actually pop them out and have your doors open all the way. This is known as the Wingspan MOD

The last few years of the Caprice killed the line, but could not keep the SS in stock back when I sold them, and in 96 when they put the center console in it, Wow did it take off. The car had at least another 5 years in this body but we could not give a Caprice Sedan away so they canceled the car.

My dad has a 95. He bought it new. When I got my license I drove it until I got my own car. It was fun and had room for friends. My daughter when she was younger called it Big Daddy's big slow black car lol. I told her it use to be considered fast. She replied but not anymore right?

I love these gm b body cars. there's a guy going around in a Cadillac Fleetwood (he's now got a 00s town car) and it's brilliant because when a car goes past there is usually a flash of colour but with the fleetwood it's a long golden streak, car's massive

It looks like a Taurus on steroids: my uncle when the Caprice made its early 90 s return. Really, though, these were muscle cars in the vein of the first muscle cars in the 60's, having a powerful (for its time in this case) engine in a large car.

On the base trim Caprice, you would find a crank window in the exact spot where the power window switch is. So instead of making a new door panel, they just covered the hole with the switch. Not random Doug, just more of that GM cost cutting.

I was issued a 1996 Caprice police with the LT1. Fastest car in our police department. And I've driven a '96Impala SS. Same car underneath, just civilian trim. The exception is the police Caprice had the shifter on the steering column.
