2022 Acura NSX Type S: The End of a Controversial Supercar

2022 Acura NSX Type S review! The new Acura NSX has been controversial since it came out, and now the final one is here. Today I'm reviewing the NSX Type S, and I'll show you all the quirks and features of the new NSX Type S. I'm also going to review the 2022 NSX Type S and show you what it's like on the road. Christian: I think people should think of the NSX more of just the pride of the Japanese sports car and a competitor to the GTR (Nismo because of the Type S) and the GR Supra. It is a Ferrari alternative on a budget that's more reliable and all that but it's also an important pillar for the Japanese sports car industry. And I can already see the next gen NSX (if it ever get's made) get judged for not being like the original NSX and then when it finally goes out of production people wishing it came back, like with this generation and the original NSX. They're not as mass produced as other supercars and they're not appreciated until they're finally gone.

I think the main issue isn't that it is or isn't a good car. I think everyone always saw it as a good car. The problem was that, as you mentioned, it doesn't really harken back to the original NSX the way that everyone was expecting. So their argument was always it's not a good NSX more than anything.
I think the big miss here is that the original NSX was Honda's halo car. It was meant to push boundary's while still being affordable and reliable. The new NSX is the same thing. while not Honda's halo car, Acura is close enough, and it was still designed to push boundary's while still being affordable. Sure, the price seems high. but if you adjust the original NSX for inflation, you realize that it really wasn't that far off.
Sure, we all wanted an analog, cheap, supercar. as that is what the NSX was at the time. In reality. what we all wanted was the return of the MR2, but were hoping it would be the NSX.

The people complaining that it wasn't analogue enough forget that the original NSX boasted lots of cutting edge technology features in its design and construction. It came out in 1990 (4 years before the -e36- M3) before digital technology started to really dominate car design. What it did show was that you could have supercars performance and still be reliable and reasonable to maintain. It wasn't some mystery magic Honda juice that let it go toe to toe with the best other carmakers offered. Except the blessing of Senna's loafers, maybe.
Might as well complain that modern Mustangs aren't carbeurated.

Ways I'd spend my time in my new supercar:
Driving it quickly 99. 9%
Using the infotainment system 0. 01%
Seriously, this point of criticism is arbitrary, and people need to quit re-hashing it ad nauseum. If the infotainment is a place where costs can be cut, then so be it.
I have a smart phone. It'd be like complaining that my smart phone doesn't have wheels and can't be ridden. That's not its purpose.
The purpose of a supercar is to be a supercar, not a second smart phone.

I love the comments of the NSX outdated interior, old info-taimment, lacks luxury touches, poor back up camera, or no ventilated seats. The NSX is not that type of car. It is a track ready car you can drive to/from the track. You are not going to drive the NSX on road-trips or be a daily driver like your Honda Civic, Accord, or MDX. Track day car, show off on certain days, and garage queen are the only functions for a car like this.

I drive a 2018 Honda Clarity and I'm shocked about how much it shares with the NSX. Same back-up camera, same push button transmission, same terrible infotainment system, same buttons and stalks. Clarity PHEV is a plug in hybrid too. the NSX is much prettier, with a better suspension and way more power. but I complain about the crappy infotainment and I paid 40k CAD. how did they not fix that on their flagship model?

Note to any design manager / bean counter. Give me a vehicle with a dumb touch screen for carplay/android auto with a rotary knob. And give me all analog controls for the hvac/seats/etc.
Less investment on your part, I get to pick which map/nav software I use, as well as music. And it won't age horribly, or be criticized for poor implementation.

Honda made a miscalculation with the return of the NSX. And they never make miscalculations! The kids who loved the old civic s, hatch, bubble hatch, type r, integra, integra r. All went on to make big car and bought the competitors hyper car brands.
Stick to producing Civic Sport, R. And bring back the S2000. Stay in your lane Honda

The OG NSX was so incredible because super cars were unreliable turds when it came to maintenance, repairs, and reliability. The idea of a reliable supercar didn't exist until the NSX.
Fast forward to 2017 and the NSX is a decently performing, cool looking car, but so are any of the dozen other options you can have in this price range.

Only reason I could dislike this car is because people, who would never buy one anyway, disliked it. Shame it got smeared. Almost seems intentional with how well the C8 did with it's hate brigade. Honda/Acura always play it safe and it just didn't tick enough boxes for public opinion. Even at the craziest that Acura would do.
