Modern era cars have ten times the engineering input (crash resistance, electronics, pollution control, etc) than cars back in the Saab 99 period. An independent manufacturer just can't amortize the expense over a relatively low production like they used to. Also, for example the Saab 99 was made for 16 years, then heavily modified into the 900 (although you could see they were basically the same thing, which went on for 20 more. That's 36 years for one basic design. You can't get away with that anymore. Saabs under GM ride on GM platforms shared by other cars, and all kinds of other GM bits and pieces, and don't have the feel of the real Saabs, one problem with platform sharing and GM's influence. Yes, GM could have managed way better, but Saab was going to fold without GM ownership even sooner. Geely just poured bottomless money into Volvo.

I remember SAAB always not able to meet their own selling goals. Always overestimated their popularity xD Years and years of economical loss. As a Volvo fan I always hated SAAB, not because the cars were bad but for the rivalry. It's a shame how it went down for them: ( Imagine if SAAB had gotten a similar deal like Volvo how their cars would've been today. Or if they had just continued as usual, turned things around and stood on their own feets how they would've developed to keep up with the competition. I never liked the proportions of this car. Low roof and fat body makes it look chubby and deformed.

all NG saab 95's have issues with there rear tail lamps melting the lamp socket the car adapts and uses the LED lamps in the tail lamps for all indications when it senses this, the center of the tail light is supposed to illuminate for both turn signals and brake, the normal lamp for this is a high temp halogen lamp, our dealer researched a fix for the issue by adapting the lamp type to non halogen lamp, the car also only has one backup lamp, the often used dash buttons on ours lost there screen labels as well, otherwise no other reliably issues and an awesome winter car as well (2. 8l with AWD)

The lack of taste and a sense of quality in consumers has pushed Saab to ruin. Kitschy premium brands are more welcomed to the market with their cheap plastic (bmw) spoofs and poor sheet metal protection (mercedes w210. I brushed one piece of sheet metal without protection and painted it properly on both sides. Outside behind the building where I live stands leaning against a fence exposed, rain and snow. In three years, it has not lost its luster. I very much wish I could have bought a Saab just this one and a few more for parts.

Saab, made one of the most modern, powerful and reliable cars in europe. In US having a V8 it's normal in EU you have to pay based on how many 'cc do you have, if you have 7. 2 litre v8 you can pay in taxes even 5000-8000 USD/ year only to own the car, that's why you don't see that many V8 or V6 in the car industry. From my point of view Saab went dead like you said becuse they manufacturer cars that go 1 M km without major changes.

4: 05. so we may never know. well unless we just find a description of the centre console online or in the manual that is. ahh whatdoyaknow its the menu back buttonas to the night mode of the panel; i think it used to be only the light switched off but im guessing with the 9-5 there was a lot of cost cutting and its far easier to simply have a breaker switch turning of the complete meter

I read that this car was just an overhauled Pontiac G6. Sure reminds me of the 2009 I had. That ate front wheel bearings every 40000 miles or first three Pennsylvania potholes it hit after the previous set was installed. I was on a first name basis with the phone operators at Car Parts. com.

Sa'ab has been a trash car the day it's made. The car reliability is complete garbage let alone all the F safety ratings. Rarely mechanic shops out there would even want to take this car no matter how much you pay them to fix. Even dealers doesn't really know how to fix their own cars.

E85 should be more of a thing. Even a very optimistic 50% emissions saving from a hybrid drivetrain vs the same car with just internal combustion emits far more CO2 than an equivalent car with no hybrid and E85, since E85 is automatically 85% carbon neutral.

Years ago my brother was given a used 9-5 convertible that looked brand new. I always thought the 9-3 and 9-5 were good looking cars with great styling. Unfortunately, m brothers 9-3 convertible was riddled with a few problems, and rather expensive ones at that.
