I'm going to buy one and hopefully laugh thinking about this video. I'm quite impressed about the special console skinny things feature at 7: 44. This video sold the car for me My very favorite car was my 1987 Toyota Celica GTS which met it's demise with a rain soaked tree on Friday, January 13th, 1995. I had to purchase something fast so grabbed a 1994 Honda Accord EX (new, last year's inventory. It has 83K miles on it now, a quarter of a century later and it's just time to get new car. I was going to buy a Toyota Rav BUT really have disliked the big boat feel of my Accord after my tight little GTS. Of course, maturity dictates I make good decision for blend of features and the Mazda seems to fulfill them all. I love this video. It has me laughing.

Mazda really go their own way. Have you ever seen an economy car interior that is remotely in this car's league? The Hold feature is brilliant it removes a major source of fatigue during city driving. And I love that both-pedals warning So often I see cars on the freeway with their brake lights constantly on as they cruise with the traffic. That is a giveaway that the driver has their left foot on the brake pedal and is rapidly wearing out their brake linings. This warning gives them the scolding they deserve. Go Mazda

This is why the Doug Score makes no sense. Rather than the scores ranking against other cars in the class (the common sense thing that everyone else does, Doug rates each car essentially against all other cars. which leads to rankings that are essentially meaningless. For example, as others noted, the Mazda3 is probably the best looking, if not one of the best looking cars in its class. It receives a DougScore of 6; well, that doesnt make any sense.

I strongly disagree with you about the styling. This whole generation of Mazda looks consistent, minimalist and there are some angles on the 3 series that look inspired by Giorgetto Giugiaro's mid 2000s Alfa's. They look like they've come out of an Italian design house, whereas a lot of Japanese cars have random ugly lines, angles and curves, nonsensical and needlessly fussy front and rear ends.

You'll regret that reverse-valve-body shifter when you're pinned in your seat trying to downshift but instead you upshift and accelerate into the a55 end of a semi. It's not a racecar, so up (away) should be upshift. That layout defies a convention that already exists. Next thing the Fed will mandate those as well; just as they did with the P-R-N-D layout.

To me it looks like the front of the car is extremely long for a compact car. Look at at the distance between the driver and the front bumper. Almost looks like you could fit a V8 in there when you look at the car from the side. Almost looks like 2/3 of the car is in front of the driver and only 1/3 of it is behind the driver. 17: 25

His scores seem to be skewed, I guess because he owns a ford Gt, come on dude you should score it against other compacts. What is a 10 in compacts not in comparison to a Ford GT. Nor should the Kia Soul even be considered to compare as I have ridden in both and the Mazda 3 will run circles around the Soul, come dude get real.

Automotive writer who pushes paid sponsor products vs know it all mechanic spitting truth left and right. Scotty ftw. added uniqueness extra value surprisingly nice quality of material sportier than you might think You talk a lot but say nothing because you don't really know anything. Rev up your vague nonsense vroom vroom

The Mazda 3 hatchback is kind of weird coming from someone that likes the ugly phone hand set taillight Kia Soul. Ever heard of change like coins and business or credit cards etc, might be a good spot for the small compartment to the left of the steering wheel. Your scores don't make sense either.

I have a Mazda 6 2004, it's really unintuitive, electrics are a bit iffy but my god is it great to drive, and actually I like that it's terrible at being a modern car love this car. Doug my 6 has no storage at the back of my seat, it's not cost cutting it's driver focused.
