Especially to those who did not live through this era, I want to state that the 1997 A6 and the Audi TT were a design REVOLUTION when they came out. Okay, they look a bit plain though modern glasses, but that is exactly the point. Cars prior to this era always had extra rub strips and chrome trim down the sides, and bumpers generally had a large shelf above them as they jutted out from the car. And the wheel flats with radiused in flares that EVERY car has today? Audi basically started that. It also cast aside the organic shapes of the 1990s, for geometric surfacing with taut surfaces. These cars were clean, and finally shed the last vestiges of trim that had held out since the '70s. Audi rebooted design, and everything that has come since, has layered new elements on top of solid surfacing and clean lines of cars like this A6. Even the inside of this RS6, though plain, also has aged well. The seats look like they could be out of a Bentley, the burl wood trim is classy, and the steering wheel looks contemporary, if simple. I only wish modern Audi was so innovative and fresh.

Solar panels where installed, to offer cooling once the sun was bursting on the roof. It only fed a fan to provide some aircooling in the compartiment but nothing fancy. Remember it's a low wattage solar panel and it wont drive a complete climate control nor that it will charge your battery. I have owned a 2001 RS4 B5 for 3 years, i can tell they share alot in common. But many things that you can find in a RS6 are very typical as for the RS4. To my understanding, the RS4 and RS6 where just overal complete cars if you are into audi that is. They drive like a tank, but they cost huge depending on maintaince. In 3 years i spend 30k in euro's combined maintaince and 'upgrades'. Tunability is great. Squeezing 500HP out of a stock 380HP model is'nt that difficult.

I remember seeing this on my way back from school back in 2006. On a two-lane highway behind a long line of cars. I was about to switch right to pass in the seemingly free lane when I spotted what I thought was an S6 in my rear view way behind and approaching very fast. I thought there's no way I'd be able to get my humble Toyota Yaris fast enough to be out of its way. So I stayed. Thank goodness I did because this thing blew past at a frightening pace. I can still recall that glorious V8 burble as it went by.

There was an optional cupholder for the front litte compartment just behind the power mirror controls (also german over engineered fold out style)There are rear cupholders in the back, they are in the middle integrated in the bench, but pretty easily breakable if you were going fast around corners and the rear passengers feet started sliding around and hitting them. Pretty shitty design

German car engineering is one of the best in the world but it is not perfect. This Audi RS6 and other Audis had transmission problems, engine turbo problems, and suspension problems. To fixed any problem in the motor of the Audi RS6 the mechanic has to take out the motor, this make maintenance expensive. Doug DeMuro destroyed his Audi that broke down to many time on him.

Sheesh are you really that clueless? Audi has always done power in a subtle way, and hopefully they continue to. And yes you can tell a difference between the 6 levels of heated seats, all the way since like '80s or '90s when they started doing that. And they've done heated rear seats since at least '92. That little sun visor was around 10 years before this RS6 as well.

Even though you mentioned it in the beginning please stop saying this is the fastest so often when the E55 was THE FASTEST SEDAN IN 2003. This was close but 2nd place. Overall the E55's engine and transmission are far superior to the RS6 drivetrain. The E55 has the same transmission as the Hellcat's and can handle the power all day even modified.

that ski sack (californians refer to as theoretically. ) used to be pretty standard thing, loved it in my Bimmer (btw, this car was in line with a typical VW behemoth village mindset - creating performance car from an ordinary one simply by putting a massive engine into it. so all the other components obviously became under-designed and failing)

thi model of audi 6 is best car of last decades, period. if usa does not know how to drive/service german cars, that's another problem. quality low, lol? these are best made cars fot the money on the planet. with all that shitty cars over there, i really can't understand where you coming form with this low quality bs.

I doubt most people would agree that the E39 M5 was somehow less than this, but fast forward 13 years, and look who's wearing AWD, a twin-turbo V8, and an automatic transmission only. Whether or not you think that's progress, the RS6 was definitely ahead of its time in those respects.
