Last episode Marty was working on the MR2 which turns out to be not quite as clean as he first thought. Almost every bolt was seized or rusted, and while the body itself is in reasonable condition just about everything attached to it doesn't work. This episode the fuel tank tank needs to be removed and new coolant hoses installed throughout the car. The MR2 slowly but surely being restored to it's former glory but there's still a lot of work left to do. Vito: I have owned 5 MR 2's 2 turbos and 3 aspirated (one a parts car. They cost a fortune to fix because of the rear engine configuration but are fun to drive but no match for the more modern BMW 3 series and Golf Gti's. Only upside is that they are so easy to sell because they have such a passionate fan base and I have had people drive a 1000 miles to pick my car up no problem!

Marty Toyota designed and installed 8 neoprene packers around the SW20 fuel tank. They were on your old tank; 3 on top, 2 on each side, and 1 on the bottom. I have watched your video twice and you have installed your replacement tank from Victoria without these important packers. You had better take it out and put the packers in so your tank does not get holes in it from moving around as body flexes. Would be a real problem if you get fuel coming out a hole. [ I am also CPEng Aus and RPEQ so advice about packers is serious engineering advice. ] Also I am an SW20 owner for 20 years who is also putting his tank back in the next Saturday for the second time and will be making those frustration noises. Rubber grease on all those 5 hoses on the tanks rear end makes the re-fitting much easier.

Can anyone tell me the model of that Ryobi right angle driver he is using at 5: 55? Or recommend a similar one that has a small profile like that? I desperately need a good right angle driver and the ones that are sold at most places are still too bulky because of the keyless chucks they put on them (including the right angle driver Ryobi currently sells on their website.

If any of you do decide to buy one of these, two things:
1- check the body for rust. Make sure anything not repairable is good because youre going to be putting a lot of money into fixing it. You dont want it to be for nothing.
2- expect to have to pull the engine. Even if the engine is running good, timing belts will require the engine to be pulled.

Marty, I can relate to your frustration in this video so much with how old bolts brake and new parts are wrong parts. I bet you wish there was someone to give you an extra hand with that fuel tank lol. As someone that almost always has to work on my cars by myself i wish i had a camera guy to watch me struggle.

Not sure if this would've helped with your tank, but for motorcycles a common thing to do is get a bunch of clean nuts and some denatured alcohol, throw those in the tank and just shake the hell out of it for an hour or so, helps remove loose rust and cleans up the inside quite a bit!

Weird fuel tank? Challenge accepted - Mitsubishi Pajero IO. fuel tank is a 2 ft long horse shoe over the rear prop shaft. come with 2 level senders, 2 fuel pumps(transfer from left to right and main pump on right) only saving grace is floor mounted access panels under rear seat.

Welcome to my world (car tinkerer in the UK) If I undo a bolt thats not rusty I open a bottle of champagne, recently spent 10 hours on a single front suspension pinch bolt, defeated heat, oil smashing with a hammer, had to get a Heat Induction tool in the end!

Watching this MRPOO series just makes me hurt; many memories of working on cars that just don't want to be changed. Also - does it hurt more knowing that you have a mate there with you, but their main roll is to be on the camera. #weallhavethatuselessmate

That questionable object in the air filter looks like it is there to prevent filter collapse. Air is pretty thick stuff at high speeds and large pressure differentials. I wonder if it is a standard thing for that filter series or a filter add on?
