The Secret to Turn Your Car into a New Car Paul Reed: Scotty, I must confess, that many years ago, my wife and I were involved with Alpine / Ecoquest International as dealers and we sold all manner of ozone based devices marketed as air purifiers. I get the impression that you were duped into buying one of these units, as our customers at the time were as well. The propaganda and rhetoric the company spewed was very convincing, but in the end all we did was lose thousands of dollars and many friends, as well as worsening my wife's asthma.

Another source of odors can be the main cabin filter. This should be changed every 6 months depending on your local conditions. The source of pollution you want to keep out is pollen, road dirt, soot and other nasty air pollution. This is a particle which may also have an activated charcoal filter layer for some outdoor air odor. People often forget about replacing these which can become clogged with leaves, soot, pollen and if they get wet can be a major source of mold spores. I recently replaced the cabin filter of a 2007 Audi A4 which had been invaded by a chipmunk which had made it its winter home. It usually takes 5 - 10 minutes to change this filter.

Scotty, I didn't know about the insects. The benefits of medical ozone are well documented. Inhalation and IV injection have been used in Germany for years to cure disease. Many of the side effects are due to the detoxification process in the body. Two very high areas of natural ozone are the savannas of Africa and the pine forests of the United States. Check out Ed McCabe Mr Oxygen on the net. It may help someone you love. I enjoy your shtick.

Hey, Scotty, I drive a '08 Ford Focus with the 4-speed automatic. A little over 3 months ago, I accelerated hard and let off the gas suddenly at 6200 rpm and heard a loud bang and the car jerked hard. It wasn't a backfire sound, so I suspect I let go right when the car was in the middle of shifting gears. Am I correct? Should I get this checked out? It has only happened once or twice in its lifetime

I drove a nice newish company car for a couple years that they said I could use for personal use but I never wanted to be in the thing because the previous occupant was a chain smoker. I could not get that odor out. Wish I had one of those do-dads. The company had someone come fog it a couple times but that didn't eliminate the odor.

Unless things changed these past 10+ years, those ozone machines were known to severely degrade the quality and age of the leather seats and other leather parts on hour car, like panels and your steering wheel. Yes, it cleans smells, but are you sure this is safe on leather now?

I bought a used Avalon last year. When the summer came and I started the car, I get a huge whiff of cigarette smoke smell coming from the AC vents. Every time when it's hot out I get this. Thanks for showing this Scotty I'm pretty sure it will help get rid of this.

Long ago I bought a '79 Trans Am from a guy that used to play football in high school--he would get into the car immediately after a game or practice without showering. That car always reeked of old sweat, never could get rid of the smell

I know Ozone, weird stuff, electric static bar- glowing purple violet-manufacturing to etch plastic sheeting- A high pitch squeal or whistle, loud, fairly dangerous with my exhaust fan off, wow. always turn that on or. what a smell

This could very well be the solution to the A/C smells too. Instead of those spray cans that have the same operation: air recirculation, run for about 20-30 mins, and then vent the car very very well. Thanks Skotty.
