Chevy Just Gave Up on America and Why You Should Be Mad Wayne: For your interest I had a 2000 Escalade and put 300, 000 miles on it towing a trailer for business that weighed in at 5500 lbs. I then gave it to my son who put another 40, 000 miles on it. When we got rid of it, it was working fine but wouldn t pass the smog test. I now use a 2008 Denali xl. Handles the trailer better but had to put a larger radiator in it cause it would over heat pulling the trailer if the ambient temp is above 60 degrees f. I am wondering how long the 6 speed trans will last? I have about 140, 000 miles on it now. Bigger question is what do I buy (used) next?

I wouldn't be caught dead buying a modern GM. Junk. Probably slightly better then say Fiat, still not exactly a good investment. However GM back in the 80's wasn't half bad. Sure they did a lot of badge engineering, and made some mistakes, but modern GM autos are just plain ugly and feel cheap. We have a 2016 Cruz at work, I kinda like how that one looks. But nobody like driving them. Everything just feels cheap and god forbid you got one of them turbo charged 1. 4l engines. Nothing but problems. Sadly that thing sits in the shop more then its driven.

I own a 2005 tahoe. I'm a back yard mechanic. I love this thing. has over 200k runs like new been in texas, las vegas about 10 times. grand canyon, sholow, Prescott, sedona. I keep up with everything. did replace de ac compressor, radiator, water pump. got new tires. I'm thinking about buying another one this time a Silverado and keep the Tahoe with same engine. my brother has a 2004 6 cylinder with over 245k. love this GMs. i actually been thinking about putting 6V71 Detroit diesel on it.

Hi Scotty, I have a question I have a 2016 Silverado with 50, 500 miles, the check engine light just turned on and the codes it gives is P050D & P0300 my question is can I run like that for like a month reason being is that I m out in a job in the middle of nowhere in the oilfield I don t have any free time to go get it checked cuz I work 12 hours shifts 7 days a week. I m concerned if I keep running my truck with those faults that I might ruin it. Thanks in advance

Hey Scotty I have a 6 gen camaro 2SS that I got back in May as a Used car it had A/C problems so I took it to my local Chevy dealership. Apparently it s A/C compressor is failing and needs to be replaced they are charging 1700 for it but the part only cost around 200- 300 should I take it to the dealership or take it to a local mechanic and just order the parts online since I have the part numbers from the cars diagnostic.

Go to a inflation calculator, type in 2001 to 2020, enter 33000 and hit enter. You'll find its equivalent to about 48000 compared to now. So basically it's only gone up a few thousand. Now think about all the technical upgrades. Now think that theres many people who dont buy vehicles to keep for 200, 000 miles. Basically you're getting the same value with only slightly inflated numbers. Not a 20000 dollar difference

My 1999 Silverado that is the same body style and probably rear end as that one, the rear end went out, and it was made in the USA. I will say, my A/C is still good. Transmission shifts good most of the time, but if I have the A/C on a lot and I think it heats the transmission oil cooler up too much, it starts shifting bad. Only when it's hot out. That might be the 5. 3L engine though, mine is the 4. 8L engine.

Scotty, another thing to mention, those older models didn t have GM s AFM (Active Fuel Management) that switches from 8 to 4 cylinders depending on usage. Only later did they discover that all that switching from 8 to 4 cylinder mode caused issues with the rings and lifters causing massive amounts of oil consumption and lifter failure. GM killed the reliability and longevity of these models as a result.

Scotty i actually dont blame them america has become so relaxed on intellectual property laws ive had 8 ideas stolen from me over the years they're currently trying to extort the rodless engine so I'm going to Canada to write out the rest of my ideas the million mile engine the hydraulic subaxles and im taking my drawings with me the American dream lives in foreign countries now

I wonder why Scotty dislikes Mexico? If they are making the differentials that way in Mexico, it is only because GM is telling them to do them that way. It is not like you have something made in another country and you never test them to make sure they are up to your standards. It is called the company's quality control no matter where they manufacture the parts.
