Straight-8 engines have few advantages. They're very smooth (smoother than inline-6 engines) and the ancillaries (generator, intake manifold, exhaust, etc) are easier to work on than V type engines. On the other hand, they're awfully long and heavy. They cost more to manufacture than 6 cylinder engines. By far the biggest drawback of the straight-8 is that because the crankshaft is so long, it tends to flex which makes attaining high rpms impracticable. The design became obsolete after world war II and it was ultimately abandoned in the late 1950s

There is a difference, between making jeeps, and making ventilators, though. Would you want to rely on a device, that has not gone through any approval testing, to keep you alive, if you needed it. Just because cars have air conditioning, does not make these compnaies experts in ventilators. So why are people assuming car manufacturers can make ventilators? Plus on badge thing, i doubt mercades have changed there emblem. April fools idiots will believe anything.

My second car was a straight 6 Ford zodiac three on the tree so I learnt to drive a column change as it's called here in the UK, it was one of the quietest engines I ever drove when you stopped at the lights at idle people used to think it had stalled, went great until my mate decided to see if he could move a stone wall with it and honestly the straight 6 probably saved his and his girlfriends life as it took most of the impact

I think Scotty is wrong on the straight 8 question. The straight 8 should have more torque but less horsepower. Generally straight 8's of that generation have much lower RPM ranges which would lower the horsepower, but the torque number should be pretty good. Also they tend to be extremely smooth running more so than a V8. Just like straight sixes are smoother running and naturally balanced versus a v6

I had a 2. 5 Liter Iron Duke engine in my '84 Chevrolet Citation. It had an automatic and power steering. The best mileage I ever got from it was 32 mpg on a flat highway at about 50 mph. In stock form, you could go as high as about 120 horsepower, but if the bottom end was strengthened with better rods and a better crank, you could go higher.

AGAIN with the straight 8 Cadillac For at least the third time I'm asking, please, someone show me proof that Cadillac ever made a straight 8. Buick yes, Pontiac yes, Packard yes, but Cadillac, I don't think so. Either Scotty mis remembers the make of the car or grandpa swapped a straight 8 in to a Caddy for some reason

Hello Scotty, I'm thinking of buying a 2013 Mustang V6 engine. The test ride went great actually. Can you give me your thoughts on this particular car and how do they hold up long term. The owner is the original owner, a middle aged guy amd he Showed a good amount of paper work having keep it well serviced. Thanks

Hi Scotty, thanks for your videos, I got a 2013 Manual Ford Mustang GT with 40 000 Miles. When I am in 6th gear and accelerate above 75 MPH my car makes a whining noise, the drive remains smooth and the car whines only when I accelerate, there is no whining if I am in the Gear and don't accelerate. Why is that?
