Hey Scotty whats your thoughts on the 2013 Subaru Legacy, CVT, 2. 5L, 4Cyl, Dual Overhead Cam. Financed it in November of 2017 from the local Subaru dealer, with about 76, 000 miles on it. As of today its got about 110, 300 miles. Havent run into many issues with it, just kept it up, gas and oil changes, couple thousand miles ago had to replace the spark plugs for the first time, as well as the right bearing hub assembly, other than that, no maintenance other than tires, tire rotations, oil changes, air filter changes, headlight bulbs, windshield wipers, etc. Just wondering if you have any insight as to how reliable these cars are as they get higher and higher in mileage, what to watch out for, any preventative maintenance I should be looking at doing, etc. Thanks in advance

Scotty Kilmer Love your videos Scotty. I do have one HUGE concern however, .Ive been looking for a good used (2014 Lexus) SUV and I have found many that fit my criteria but, many of them are in or from Texas and in particular from around the Houston area. Normally I would have no issue however, I know a few years back Houston and the whole of the southeast coastal region suffered horrific flooding that lasted for weeks. Im scared to purchase anything coming out of Texas, even the northern areas like Dallas for fear that all these flooded cars have been cheaply repaired and cleaned up, moved around and put on the used market. I DO NOT under any circumstances want a car that has EVER been flooded or had water damage of any kind whatsoever. Suggestions please?

Hey Scotty Ive got this 1994 Mercedes E320 that I like so much that I want it to be the last car I ever own. Ive already replaced the notorious main wiring harness with a brand new one and taken care of the throttle actuator, and everything else still works. My biggest concern, though, is the durability/longevity of the automatic transmission. Should I swap it out for a used five-speed manual, especially given that the parts Ill need for the swap - both used and new - are relatively affordable and easy to find and collect in my country, or should I just keep changing the fluid and filter with genuine MB fluid regularly and stop worrying about it? I could probably get the swap done in a day - maybe two if theres an emergency. What do you think?

Hey Scotty, I got a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 5. 7L engine with 192, 000 miles, and randomly everyday while Im driving it, the red lighting bolt light will come up on the dash and my truck will start revving up and jerking. Then when Im pulling over to turn the truck off and back on, sometimes itll die before I even pull over all the way. Ive put a new throttle body, new ignition coils, new battery, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires and it still does it. Any idea of what it could be, or should I just take it to the dealership and let them try and figure it out. I just thought Id see if I could get an answer from you because I really dont want to spend 100+ dollars taking it to the dealership.

Thats funny about turbos and your advice. I had a 2008 Subaru WRX from 2008 to 2013. I never once used synthetic oil even though everyone said the turbo would blow without it. That didnt make any logical sense to me, so I didnt bother. I also never once did the transmission fluid. Just regular oil changes. I never even did the plugs. I bought it used with 7, 000 miles on it and drove it till it had around 85, 000 miles on it and wound up trading it on a Rav4 (not the one I have now) and getting 13, 000 off my next car. They eventually sold it for 18, 000. Every year Subaru did a free check up and every year I had them check the turbo. Every year they told me it was running fine.

The latest set are power stop rotors and hawk hp brake pads. These still ended up warping and shake the car every time we brake above 30mph. As I said this is the 3rd set, 2 different mechanics. What is going on?

Scotty You will not believe this but I was sitting in the dealers waiting room while my wifes 2017 Honda Civic is getting transmission fluid change at 40k miles. I was getting ready to ask your advice on this because my wife is angry at me for spending the money on it. You were just supposed to get the oil changed, she said. I watched this video and 1: 20 in I found your opinion on this and sent the video to my wife with a big HA SCOTTY SAID IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO Im still in trouble. True story.

I live in Minnesota and would not consider buying a Texas car. People there drive the heck out of their cars and dont seem to maintain them that well. While the car can be rust free, there are usually a lot of other potential problems that can occur from abuse and lack of maintenance. I have found inland Mississippi and Alabama to be good places to get a used car. They are poor states so the prices are lower and people drive like they are not in a hurry in those states.
