Between 1986 and 2014 I owned 2 toyota P/Us. First one had 250, 000 and the second had 280, 000 miles. 2nd was a 2001. Both were stick shift. I drove all over the backcountry of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming and California in those things. Really beat them up. They could go anywhere because they werent that wide and could get through tight spaces. Even weighed them down with a big hunting tent and all the gear. Hauled a lot more than I should. Bottom line they were bomb proof. Only problem was the rust in my 85. All those 80s models rusted through right above the rear wheels. Called it the standard rust package. I wouldnt buy the new ones though. Theyre too big now and the 4WD is a little soft.

Ehh. gotta disagree about the f150. I work on a lot of em. currently have keys for 4 of em on my toolbox. 07 08 10 and 11. In my opinion they are kinda crap. They love to missfire and plugs dont like to come out without damaging threads or breaking. My dad also had a 98 4 banger, manual ranger and that thing could barely get up to highway speeds. The f150s with the ecoboost are also crap and known for turbo issues. Just my opinion based on what Ive seen working on them.

. The. F150. the most recalled pickup in US History, with endless TSBs. Your were right on with Toyotas, lol youre an obvious GM hater, the 5. 3 is a great engine thats easy to work on and cheap to repair. Fords 5. 4 Triton is a nightmare. Ford also hasnt produced a decent diesel pickup since the 7. 3L. 6. 0, 6. 4, nightmares. Do yourself a favor get a LBZ/LMM Duramax/Allison or a Cummins with a short bed and a extended cab if you want the small truck feel.

Had a 2002 F150 since 2009, I never had to fix anything on that truck other than the Chevy ball joints that Fabtech used on their lift kit. Has an 8000lb towing capacity, and my 5. 4 gave me 20mpg even if it was lifted. 190k miles and never had an issue. Ended up giving it to my dad 2mo ago because I have always wanted a 2003 Harley Davidson edition ever since I saw one when I was 10, and Im currently looking for one.

To Fords dependability, the guys in the oil field say that the only vehicles that can stand the rigor of the terrain is the Ford. Chevy and Toyotas cant. However, I dont like the fact that if something goes wrong with one of the heads, you have to replace the engine. Up until this year, Id take the Chevy or the Dodge. I just bought my Chevy but after the bailout fiasco I will be buying a Ford.

Theres a video on the internet the Nissan Frontier versus the Toyota Tacoma. There were five categories for off-roading and the frontier took four out of five. The only area it was lacking in was it weighed 400 lb more than the Tacoma and when four wheeling in sand it bottomed out. Other than that it one in every category. Even had more horsepower which I found surprising.

I like you Scotty but come on my man. NISSAN is not worth spending any money on. Its a hail Mary at best & I experienced this first hand. A nightmare to say the least. I owned a 05 xterra but I know that the frontier & pathfinder also had transmission failure not to mention a boatload of random parts failing prematurely due to good ol plastic. STAY AWAY FROM NISSAN

I had a 99 Tacoma and it was reliable for the first 180k km. 3. 4L v6 motor. It was serviced at the Toyota dealership only. Found the truck was very gutless and got poor mileage dont even think about pulling anything with it haha. The cab is small and not very comfortable to drive. Sold it for a crazy amount and bought a F150- its been awesome so far 280k km no issues

Also the Silverado is better hands down than the F150, the 4. 6 and 5. 4 2v engines were horrendously underpowered, not to mention they constantly go through cam-phasers and heads. Same story with the 3v engines. The 5. 0 4v engine is decent. Chevy 4. 8, 5. 3, 5. 7, 6. 0, and 6. 2 LS engines are light-years better. Way more powerful and reliable.
