I have a 94 Toyota 4Runner, 2. 4L turbo diesel (4 cylinders inline) with manual transmission. The engine survived for less than 300 kilometers after I bought it although it was running really well with no smoking and without any suspicious noises. After I took out and disassembled the engine I found numerous cracks on the cylinder head and the engine block also went to the junkyard because it was also damaged (it had melted down in a few places on top of the cylinders. Im going to do an engine swap on this SUV, but I would like to hear what can you tell me about this vehicle. I am a mechanic myself but I work mostly on trucks, semi trucks, trailers etc. and I dont have much experience working on cars.

My recall experience with Toyota. Got the notice. Set the appointment. Showed on time for the appointment. Car spent the day at the dealership with my sitting and reading (this is fairly normal for car repairs, dealer or non dealer. Car turned back to me about 5 hours later. The recall work has not been done. The dealership does not have the airbag. However, the dealership would like to sell me over 1200 in services. I go to my regular mechanic - service costs 60 and none of the dealer recommended stuff is necessary. Another day. Another appointment. Dealer confirms that it has the part. 20 minutes later I am told that the dealer service people checked and I did not have to replace the airbag.

Scotty, first of all thank you for a great show. Youre the best car dude and mechaninc. Would I live in the US Id let you service my car any time without doubt. Im browsing through your video clips but I cannot find anything about the Nissan Rogue, a sort of sporty type of SUV. I am curious what your opinion would be on the 2017-2018 Rogue automatic. I bought one last year (its called Qashqai for some reason here in Sweden, with the automatic Xtronic transmission, gasoline, 1. 2 engine I believe it is. I remember you rated certain larger Nissan pickups in a clip not long ago, but have you yet had a Rouge in your care? If not, does that mean theyre so good they dont break?

Here is my question. I bought a new car from a dealer. Im having issues with the transmission shifting. I have brought it in 3 times now under warranty and they say nothing is wrong. There is surely something wrong, but they seem to not find anything. its like they just dont want to take the time to find the issue or just dont want to fix it under warranty. What can I do about this, call the manufacturer, can I get warranty work done at a smaller shop who might give a crap about me? I know if a mechanic actually drives my car they would feel the issue and be able to correct it. Please help.

Just remember on a fuel injected car the seals around the fuel injectors can cause leaks which can mimick a problem in the combustion chamber. So before condemning the engine, valve stem seals, piston rings etc. start there do a leak down test and check for air bubbles using soapy water around injectors. Also, plugs, wires and vacuum leaks from the hoses and watch out for the pcv valve grommet and an idle air control valve MAF sensor and throttle body needing to be cleaned.

I have experience as a customer of main dealers trying to conceal that a recall exists and then charge the customer and then theyll also invoice the manufacturer warranty dept. The same (Mercedes) main dealer also wanted 3K for a brake control unit (the memory was full and the part HAD to be replaced I got a guy - who speaks enough German to operate the manufacturer programs - to reset/reload the non-defective braking ECU for 30. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION

This is to the guy with the HONDA with a bad AC system. Rock Auto has a GPD AC kit for 163 for the 2. 3l or 204 for the v6. You should be able to have your AC system working for less than 500. My mechanic recommended getting the kit vs just the compressor. I brought a similar GPD AC kit for my 1996 Chevy Lumina. I had it put in last September and it still works great. It cost me less than 500 for the parts and labor. Im very happy. Good luck

Scotty never did explain why recalls are a scam. Therefore let me explain. Many times the customer has to pay for parts that are indirectly involved with the recall scope of work. Let us say that the recall involves a problem with the sub-frame. If the exhaust cannot be placed back properly, due to its age, then the customer is responsible for paying for the new exhaust components. The list may go on, as it usually does.

Had to take a lady friends Chrysler into the stealership for an ignition switch recall, while they were shuffling the work order paper work mention was made to update the computer while it was there. I had to tell them twice not to perform anything else except the ignition switch replacement. If she had taken the car in herself she wouldve unwittingly gotten a bill for 160. Thats really parasitic. Love your channel.
