What a total BS about the KN filters. KN filters are superior over paper filters. If you consider the paper and KN filter getting dirty equally at the same time, the KN filter will let more air through. A paper filter very quickly loses its efficiency when it gets clogged up. When the KN filter gets clogged up equally it gives the engine still better performance. I am referring to the testing David Vizard has done, which you can find in his book about the tuning the A-series engine. Ofcourse his research and testing of the filters does also apply to other engines.

Speaking of sun, one of the developments being followed up on in the scientific community is that the recent rise in skin cancers is not due to increased sun exposure (weve been in the sun for hundreds of thousands of years, but because our modern diets high in linoleic acids found in vegetable oils increases our sensitivity to those cancers. Cutting out the vegetable oils, rebalancing our Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratios closer to what our diets contained even 50 years ago, and going back to animal lard or butter might actually be the healthier way of cooking.

K&n filter are best to my knowledge. i have one own one for almost 14 year still looks new. is a washable so far i have not seen my fault apart. any way if it ever happens. you can get a free replacement since they are a lifetime warranty. From my experience it increases gas miles at the pump. And higher performance at the gas pedal. cleaning the filter is less then five minutes. Just spray the k&n cleaner rinse it water And let dry in the sun couple of hours. Some People prefer to have 2 to save time in waiting to dry. No big deal.

Its not always social involvement in vehicles that gets people mad Scotty, atleast not me. I just know that with some cars you are totally wrong. meaning BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, VW, they belong to the most reliable cars in Europe. It seems they sell other BMW, Mercedes, Volvo and VWs in the US. Maybe you should make it more clear that there is a big difference in quality between cars delivered to the US and the ones for the EU market. Believe me, Im not a Scotty basher I drive the American symbol for god sake hahahah a Jeep Wrangler. ;-)

I can see Scottys reasoning with the K&NIhave had a K&N on my BMW for 11 years and never had issues, but where im at its not very dusty or dirty in general. Probably a lot more dust in some regions in the USA with sand and deserts. I can see that this would clog up the filter. Tho, it raises the question: if the filter is clogged up, then less air gets through, hence less dirt? im no scientist. To be honest, most put the open filters on because it sounds so good - i mean +10HP

My dad and myself havent had any problems with K&N at all, been using them on everything we drive, since 1994. The thing I see from everyone is can and if well if you take care of your car it can last longer then it should. There have been third party testing done, but they over oiled the filter or ran it completely dry, that causes the problems not doing things properly and letting it dry for as long as it says in the directions. Great vid as always Scotty.

Anything that isnt turbocharged you would be fine with K&N. Turbocharged engines usually have better OEM filters these days than the aftermarket world. I wouldnt run a K&N on a diesel engine but thats just me. If you really need an aftermarket intake look for something that is covered box with a good filter that is reusable. There are dry filters that come with a cleaning agent, you also have the option to oil it before you install it or after youve cleaned it.

My K&N lasted for 14 years on my 2003 Ford Ranger 4. 0L before I even cleaned it. No problems. When I did clean it, I over-oiled it, and thats where it put oil on the MAF sensor and it started to go nuts. I thought I went lightly, but nopeI thought about it. The filter was 50 bux. Each paper filter is 11 bux at Walmart. I would change the paper element every 6 months which makes 28 paper elements over 14 years meaning 308 bux. I got a new K&N; )

Hell every car I have had I run K&N filters. I buy two of them while I clean one, the other can be placed in and there is no downtime. Yes some PPL think they are expensive. However, they are worth every penny. I clean them let them sit two or three days for treatment. After that its ready to go back in the car. I live in a very dusty area, ok a dust bowl if you will. But I can do each car 15, 000 to 20, 000 miles each.
