Heres Why Toyotas are Breaking Harry Roger: I got a 2008 XB which has the 2. 4L engine in question. I just do oil changes 3 times a year. Thats more than whats recommended but by doing this Ive had no oil burning issues and Its been 11 years and 200K miles. Its easy to change oil since I installed a Fumoto valve - No tools, no jacking the car up, I just put an oil pan under, reach around the passenger tire and open the valve. Its a 15 minute oil change The only negative is the angle at which my hand opens the valve is directly in front of the valve so my hand gets covered in oil but, you always get some oil on you when doing an oil change anyway so I dont think its a big deal. I get my oil from Walmart at 20 a gallon so it works out to be 60 a year. Besides oil, once a year I change filters(10 oil 10 air) and spark plugs(20) and Ive had no repairs in 11 years I spend about 110 a year, thats low cost maintenance(I also do a transmission oil and filter change once every 4 years - 40. Even a Toyota with this design flaw will be more reliable than other cars just by doing one extra oil change per year. Amazing

I seldom so strongly disagree with you Scotty but you got it completely wrong on this video. It was irrelevant whether those engines were made in Japan or the US. It was a DESIGN PROBLEM that would have happened no matter where they were assembled. You went on and on about made in Japan when it was just a poor design. The real problem is companies are trying different things to increase efficiency at too fast a pace, and unfortunately when you combine new designs with higher complexity, there is not only more that can go wrong, but higher repair costs over the life of the vehicle when they do. This is the kind of problem that results from government dictating the necessity of technological change instead of leaving it to the experts. Other automobile manufacturers are just making different design mistakes. When you rush something its bound to turn out worse than if given enough time to do (and test) it properly.

Scotty is entertainment for sure. Thats the main reason I watch. As far as objective of car quality evaluation goes, its best to look elsewhere. His hardcore bias against certain brands is almost like a racial or ethnic bias. As this video illustrates, all car manufactures are capable of making serious errors. And sometimes they take an action that is best for their shareholders and throws their customers under the bus. Not good for long term customer loyalty. Also, nothing stays the same with these big corporations. There are constant management and engineering talent turnovers. I personally believe that Toyota has peaked, and the quality has been stagnant for quite a few years. Other companies that are eager to gain market share are doing what it takes to improve their reputation - they are slowly building better and better vehicles. The Korean manufactures are a prime example.

Scotty Kilmer I have a question for you regarding Toyota and I thought this was a good video to ask this question: why is Toyota beginning to outsource their engineering for certain models like the new Supra, the 86 and Yaris? I dont really care about the sports cars, but I have always liked the Yaris. The Yaris is now a Mazda-based design (its essentially a Euro Mazda2) and I would love to rely on buying a used Yaris into the future, but I dont trust Mazdas overall design reliability in comparison to Toyotas. I find this increasing trend by Toyota very disconcerting. Why is Toyota doing this? Also, you have arguably the best car channel on YouTube. Keep up the great work and thanks a bunch

Mr SCOTTY. pls help. my 2010 toyota corolla with 3zr engine, is make unusual shift when cruising at 25-27mph / 40-44kmh. It feels like engine break. the mechanic dont know what happened and ask for trans overhaul. It runs by 63. 000km / around 40. 000 miles by now. And owned since new. Maintenance scheduled regularly every 3000 miles. Oil change 5w 30 full synt. Oil filter. Tune up. Air filter every 10000 miles. Its a cvt and i just change the trans fluid with toyota genuine ws fluid on 63. 000 km / 40. 000 miles. 3 gallons / 12 litre. ThanksThanks

I bought 07 Camry 2. 4. I found out after purchase that the prior owners did not take advantage of the enhanced warranty fix. The warranty period expired. So, I did the repair myself. oil consumption kit with 4 new pistons 429. 00. What I found is the piston design is ok, it was the 2 piece oil ring that plugged up so bad with carbon. Overtime the oil gradually plugged up the inner spring ring that hugged the piston then the small holes in the outer ring plugged. New oil ring design allows the oil to quickly get to the piston oil return holes.

Scotty I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 6cylinder. Everything is wrong because face it its a Pontiac. But most importantly the electronic steering shuts off randomly whenever Im driving which is obviously dangerous. Ive looked up some forums and a lot of people have the same problem but GM has not put a recall on them. Before spending a lot of money on swapping out the electronic steering motor do you have any idea what the actual problem could be? Theres a lot of electronic issues with this car so Im thinking it has something to do with the cpu?

About a month before my 2006 RAV4 was recalled for excessive oil use I was at the dealer for a different problem. The dealer did their 57 point vehicle inspection and everything was perfect. When I brought my car back for the oil use problem - guess what? In a matter of 4 weeks I had 8 oil leaks. My engine oil pan, the front cover, the valve covers, etc. Not only that but my rear differential and all my wheel bearing were leaking. They said they couldnt do the oil use problem unless I spent 2300 to fix all the problems that had popped up.

WHAT ABOUT THE GAS PEDAL STICKING RECALL They never had my 2010 Matrix listed on the recall, but it happened to me twice. almost crashed, once it stuck, the other time the car mat slid up under. two different recalls for these issues. Car accelerated out of control in winter, after spinning free from a snow covered parking lot. I ended up jamming on the brakes after swerving a bunch and shutting the car off. Revved wide open, even with foot off the gas, and clutch pressed. Hasnt happened in 3 years since though.
