A most interesting as a development, but as always the problems with any electric vehicle, as you say is: replacement cost of the battery packs which have to be done all at once and the recharge time. I have doubts about their fast recharge claim. Under full load my old 96 F350 4x4 460 Crew cab w/dual tanks will go 700 miles without a fill up, (yes, Ive done some work on it to get that. In 15 min I can fill both tanks and then drive another 700 miles if I want. If these guys can bring down the price of the batteries and shave more time of the recharge, for a FULL charge, then theyll have something. Even so, with the low profile of the base platform it will kinda stop any serious off road travel. However, at least someone is doing something.

Hopefully they build a simple work/company/fleet pickup with durable albeit half-assed vinyl seats. Have 2 half-assed backseats & clamshell doors with an enlarged bed to compensate as opposed to altaring the existing skateboard platform. NO fancy guages, upholstery, bells & whistles, or overwhelmingly complicated infotainment (say a backup camera and something even more simple & watered down than current Mazdas infotainment. THATS IT. Oh, and more buttons/switches than being ENTIRELY reliant on the screen for everything. Long story short, Rivian should plan on something to whoo in fleet sales. Maybe even a cargo or full size van on top of that to further secure possible interest in said fleet markets.

They will not recharge 80% in 15 min. They will have the ability to recharge 80% in 15 min. Big difference Only rare recharge stations will be able to deliver that power and these rare station will be able to dump this much power using their own batteries that recharge slowly. So, while the energy transfer is possible, the preparation work requires so much effort that it wont come at mass scale any time soon. On water - any car will die if engine submerges. You cant seal an engine off - it needs air. Batteries and electric motor dont need air. Hint hint: smart heat management would allow for waterproof electrical system.

electric vehicles are a horrible idea until something drastic changes with battery tech. Right now batteries cost too much and we just dont have enough of the raw materials to keep making them. Over a hundred years ago electric cars were around too. But battery tech sucked then too. Still sucks now just not quite as much. If battery tech takes a huge leap forward then we can switch to electric vehicles. But for now they are way too limited too expensive and too fragile. For now something like a diesel electric is a better option. A traditional engine to generate power to run electric motors.

Its just anothet Fisker, people that buy trucks dont want a electric drive train, not to mention with larger payloads you will need A LOT more power, until they are able to make batteries that can charge fast and hold a charge for at a quarter more than current batteries a electric truck wont work. Also people buy electric cars because that think they are green most truck buyers couldnt give 2 shits about global warming, they would much rather save the money and buy a gas or diesel truck.

No body ever mentions the increased load on the electrical grid if many millions of ev vehicles hit the system at once, it wasnt long ago that we were being warned of future brown outs because of increased load on the grid. Im for EV vehicles but people need to remember that hydro electric requires a huge upheaval of people, wildlife and land for the damn as well as many places get electricity from coal so cleaner gas burning vehicles not dead just yet.

Hey Scotty Nice video. You are concerned about driving through water but according to the companys website, the vehicle will be able to wade through 39 inches of water. This takes the water way above the batter pack and motors. I think the idea is that the battery packs and motors have to be water proof or you couldnt even drive it in the rain or through puddles. Anyway, time will tell if it can do that but they say it will as of now.

Love how these ICE guys hate Tesla EVs until someone else comes along and then they are all excited. Look, an EV truck, thats cool Yeah right, I just take out every time he said rivian and put in Tesla and it sounds about right. Tesla has been making exciting EVs for over 10 years and leading the way. Only time you hear from Car guys is when the legacy companies have Plans for and EV. Please, get TF out of here, late and lame.

I love reading all the defensive gas guzzler comments - your vehicles are becoming obsolete Just trying to find ways to justify buying gas - there will be no more new gas-based vehicles within the next 25 years - its over. Internal combustion engines require too much maintenance, have less storage, less torque, will be more inconvenient when electric is standardized, and, yes, theyre screwing the climate.
