Im Tired of Hearing About the New Toyota Supra V.C.: scotty, i also hate bmws, own 2 toyota hybrids, but really you have to understand, the last sportscar toyota made was the GT86, and that didnt sell like crazy. change your perception about the new supra, its just a cheap, reliable bmw. at least you wont get haters hating on the interior of the car anymore. toyota thought it would be cheaper to repair the problems that bmw created, than to develop it from scratch. theres more to a car than the iron. they proved they can build and set up great cars and engines, so taking the raw material from bmw and employing their engineers means toyota refined everything. you like toyota because of their philosophy, which underlies every model they sell and every engine they design. and that translates to a great price/value ratio. those 50 hp they lost in power, probably translate to 70k miles extra, reliability and reduced maintenance costs. only time will tell, but imagine the statement toyota would make to have the new supra survive 20 years and hundreds of thousands of miles, compared to the same Z4 that dissappears in 5 years from the streets.

Youre completely wrong about the new Supra and clearly havent read enough about it. Its a 50k car and not a 100k car. It was going to be a 100k car it Toyota developed its own engine specifically for the car and Toyota wanted more normal people to be able to buy the car. So they went to the company that makes the best I6 engines, and thats BMW. Not to mention that when BMW and Toyota settled on a chassis layout and drivetrain, they split the development. The Supra is NOT a Z4 The new Supra is a tight technical sports car with suspension tuned by Toyotas engineers. The Z4 is a convertible tourer thats meant to be driven on long open roads. Yes they are both made in Austria, but that doesnt make them the same. And yes the new Supra has its flaws (a lot of them as far as I am concerned) but its an amazing machine the Toyota never had to make for us.

If youre afraid of losing your car, a GPS tracker can help you find it, and if your car is moving without your permission you can stop it with a remote kill-switch. Manual transmission cars might prevent a thief who cant drive a stick from taking it, and theres clutch locks similar to steering wheel locks which you could secure your car with. A thief can cut the steering wheel off but any extra effort you make to simply drive your car should prevent people from wanting to joy ride with it, as the locks are a bit inconvenient for the owner as well, so Id recommend the first two: gps/killswitch. An interior camera might be good too, and more useful than just preventing theft, such as accident claims, even as a witness, or if you just like exploring beautiful mountain roads and making driving memories.

Hey Im tired to say about following. BMW and also BMW parts are extremely expensive HERE IN GERMANY for example a guy, and alot differ others have huge bmw issues for example, above 100. 000 Dollar expensive bmw causes simply above 5000 Dollars for two broken turbochargers already on a relative young dumb leasing 525 BMW 218 hp, newest generation, then aircoolingsystem broking, same car than electric engine management damaged, and bmw say. oh its a absolutely knowing, problem no kulanz its your problem. I can give you almost endless examples of these original german junk cars exactly the same with mercedes, audi vw opel or others. HERE IN GERMANY WITH ORIGINAL GERMANY PREMIUM TRASH PARTS. Much fun with that.

Seriously it makes me mad the Supra is mostly BMW because Nissan Skyline GTR and Toyota Supra were the juggernauts of the JDM game and these two were right at the top toe to toe. Look at Nissan who have hand built Nissan engines for the GTR but Toyota somehow just goes nah Ill let BMW do it. Disappointing that in modern times the GTR is faster, better looking and even full bred compared to the Supra. I guess the Supra is affordable but its a Beamer at the end of the day. Hell even the interior WINDOW BUTTONS are BMW. I want a TOYOTA not a BMW just like I wouldnt want a GTR if it had say a Mercedes engine and interior. Sure it would have a sound engine but a GTR without a Nissan engine just isnt the same.

Back in the early 90s I used to live in a somewhat crappy part of the city. Had my early 80s Mazda B2000 pick up stolen. I was pissed but it was valued at maybe 800 at best so I didnt lose any sleep over it and it was recovered a couple weeks later with some body parts missing (still driveable) so i junked it and bought a newer 90s Chevy truck. It didnt have an alarm system and I was worried about it getting stolen so every night when I got home, i popped the hood, took off the distributor cap, removed the rotor brush and took it inside with me. Try hot wiring that now you bastards Id say to myself.

I like the new supra but they could have built it themselves no question they just chose the most cost effective method, I dont really care if something is authentically a true toyota no toyota sports car that was worth whille was a real toyota anyways. The toyota 2000gt was a yamaha project which was engineered and built by yamaha for NISSAN. Nissan rejected the project and Toyota picked up the project thats just the facts. Toyotas greatest sports car achievement was nissans sloppy seconds, its a similar story to how the nsx design was essentially just stolen from mitsubishis mid4 concept.

They actually interviewed the chief engineer of the Supra, Tatsuya Tada and asked him why Toyota partnered with BMW. He said it was all about keeping costs down. Toyota knew the Supra was going to be low volume car. Designing a new inline turbo 6 from scratch would have cost a lot of money and made the car more expensive. Toyota of course tuned the engine to their specifications. Its a great looking and sounding car. Im guessing BMW told Toyota yeah we will let you borrow our engine but you have to use some of our parts and infotainment system. Only time will tell how the Supra does.

OK, Im not running out to buy a 2020 Supra, but pricing was released months ago. 50k base, 55k for the upgrade model. Nowhere near 100k. If they had a manual gearbox, Id consider the car, as I am a Supra enthusiast. Toyota sent BMW several hundred changes & upgrades to be made to the B58 engine to increase reliability, and they did their own independent chassis tuning. Did BMW design the base chassis & engine? Yep. But its not simply a rebadged Z4. (Oh, and its being built in an independent Austrian factory that builds BMW, Mercedes, and several other brands)

The 2020 supra starts at 49k and the top of the line one is 64k. Thats nowhere near 100k dollars. Im not a fan of the new supra either but youre making false claims. If Toyota developed a brand new platform for the new supra alone they would have had to sell it for well over 100k in a climate where sports cars arent selling very good. Partnering with BMW makes development costs a lot cheaper and you can say what you want about BMW but they make the best straight 6 engines on the market today so it makes sense
