I wrote this before even watching the video. Turning on the heater will not FIX an over heating engine but depending on what the problem is it will help to lower the engine temperature temporarily, hopefully long enough to get somewhere where it can be fixed. A stuck closed thermostat it will NOT help overheating at all. This happened to me once. A 1975 Chevy Nova 350ci V-8 In the late 80's. I had to be somewhere without fail. It was over 100 degrees F. The engine over heated and I turned the AC off and heater full with windows down. It got me the last 10 miles I had to go. BARELY.

I had an old 98 dodge neon ex with a dohc. Some one had replaced the rad in it with a rad from a sohc. It did okay for the most part but on hot summer days out on the highway it would get a bit warm. My brother and I used to do a lot of road trips in the summer so we'd run down the highway windows open with the defrost cranked. We used to grab pop tarts and toss em on the defroster in the pack open it up and they'd be nice and toasty warm gooey on the inside

Scotty, what I do, when my car starts heating up (100C +; coolant temperature; Canada) in a bumper to bumper traffic jam in lower gears, is I just start the AC of the car always coz it starts the front 2 fans under the hood so, this always brings the temperature down (to 90C. On highway or in no traffic driving condition, it never heats up (always at 90C. Is this the right way too? (Apart from blasting the heater on inside the car)

Scotty speaks the truth. My first car had this issue. Was a Chrysler 4 door. Black paint with black leather interior, it started overheating while traveling through desert on way to Vegas with a mechanic friend of mine. I though he was crazy when he said to turn on the heater, it worked. Was able to make it to town & get fixed. btw I will never buy a dark leather interior again, I did nothing but roast in that car in California. Life lesson

Above average temperature, keep driving? No no no no no. look, by the time yr reacting to that indicator that you noticed in a position that's abnormal it may already be to late Stop the vehicle and check some things under the hood to gauge what temp you may be at (squeeze the radiator hoses, check overflow box) or you may have a leak which can lead to warping a head because the sensor is only measuring steem -ask me how I know

Hey there Scotty I've Been watching your stuff for a while now and I have a QUESTION. I'm looking to get rid of my dodge dart 2013 and was thinking to move into the 2013 Nissan Frontier thats a v6 with only 44, 000 being sold at a honda dealership in town for 14, 000. Is it a good truck or should i go with a 2010 toyota tocoma 4 cylinder thats in town with 100, 00 miles at 10, 000? i'll be commuting most of the time for use.

I hit a snowhill on the road a long time back and stalled there - i got it janked out and carried on to work and the engine started to overheat, full blast on the heater got me to work - A snowman was killed in the engine bay and had clogged up the front and most of the front of the bay. Summer came and it started to overheat the engine, that snow ordeal killed the fan by it getting stuck by the snow.

Hey Scotty, Question, What parts of vehicles do you think should be the same on every car? For example, I believe ALL Fuel inlets should be on the driver's side to eliminate confusion and also reduce people from forgetting they are still filling the car up. also, the E-brake should always be on the passenger's side of the center console for the hand operated ones.

An oldie but a goodie. Also, it can be very dangerous with old direct radiator caps, but CAREFULLY releasing the pressure of your cooling system by loosening the cap/overflow cap but not taking off entirely can help with overheating. But you have to be EXTREMELY careful doing this and we did it way out in the bush.
