I don't know if my car was a lemon or abused by the previous owner, but I bought a 1988 Camry DX sedan with 118k miles on it when it was 10yrs old. It had the 2. 0L DOHC 4cyl. and 4-spd auto. That car was one of the most problematic cars I've ever owned. I've never owned a car since that leaked so much oil, even after throwing 1, 000 at it to fix. It also burned oil considerably. The soft suspension bottomed out so easily. The interior panels were delaminating. The clear coat was gone from the paint. The fuel pump died at a busy intersection in morning rush hour. The power sunroof was already non-functional when i bought it. The seat had horrible comfort. When you're 16 and your seat gives you a back ache after a 30min drive, you know it's a lousy design. I sold it to a mechanic for 2, 000. A week later he called wanting his money back because he was shocked how much oil it was leaking. This car soured me badly on the Toyota brand, but I'm tempted to give them another try. It's just hard to stomach paying more for a Toyota having had that kind of personal experience. I've owned a lot of cars since, from Fords to Volvos to Mitsubishis.

yes you cant kill them. I had a 2006 Toyota corolla (man I miss that car) one time the water pump let go. and I drove the car to the mechanic 20 minutes away. all the coolant leaked out of it, the temp gauge was maxed out high, it couldn't go any higher. I thought for sure this it, the engine is going to cease up but it didn't, it made it to the mechanic and put a new water pump on it and good as new. and no adverse side effects or engine damage. just amazing.

Cars like this make me feel crushed. So much of that damage could have been avoided, had the owner just maintained it as he should have. That paint? Washing and waxing would have prevented that fading and peeling. Those dents? Okay, dude can't drive. but yeah, if this had been my car, I would have gotten those things dealt with as they happened. This car could have been cosmetically stellar, as well as mechanically sound.

My 79'Lincoln has original near mint condition original paint and still has the original drivetrain in it, never repaired, original radiator in it too, the factory original digital stereo still works and plays 8-tracks perfectly. HAHAHA(8-TRACK)The AC has only needed recharging ONCE since 1979 and has over 400, 000 miles on the clock. The 1974-79 Lincoln Town car are still quite plentiful on the used car market.

That dashboard does not work either, notice the RPM indicator does not move as Scotty floors it. The old Toyotas in the early 1990s were pretty good cars. A 1991 Cressida I drove used (from my parents that I bought and used in 1996) lasted about 200, 000 then the transmission conked out. They lasted a long time. Toyota's today don't last like those old ones anymore, that is for sure (some do, but not all.

I finally gave up my 95 in January of 2017. 239k miles. My eyes still sting with tears when I think of it. I also had the floating and bouncing in the last two years hahaha. I kept it waxed and clean so it was beautiful. Eventually my front axel broke and I had the day goodbye. These were truly fabulous cars. Its the reason Im trying for a 2019 when my lease is up this winter.

Rear suspension a little clunky even with replacement spring/strut assemblies and new sway bar bushings and links. Engine purrs, uses no oil, 34 mpg on hwy. I plan to drive it at least another 10 years. So well engineered and made.

Lots of taxi drivers use Camry's. I've been in a few lately going to the airport here in Calgary and one had 660 000Km and another one had 700 000Km on it. These cars were only 3-4 years old. The drivers told me that they drive about 500 Km a day on average and just do regular maintenance like fluid changes, brakes and tires on them.

I had a '92 Camry like this one, until it got T-boned by a Jeep Comanche; written off by the insurers. I tried to find another but wound up with a V6 2000 Camry. It's a great car, but I still miss the old one. I enjoy your videos My mechanic figures you get going with several pots of coffee before making them, you are so animated
