Americans Have No Idea How Much Money They Waste on Gasoline jvanstyn: Why don't the car companies make a oil pump that pumps oil into the engine when it's stopped. I seem to remember some company that sold an aftermarket oil pump for your engine some years back. That company claimed to extend engine life by a whole bunch. I had a Prius and the motor turns off and on a lot. It had 195, 000 miles on it when it was totaled when it was rear ended on the highway. In all the time I had it, I only had to replace the cruise control button and a rear light. I also knew someone who had my same 2006 Prius that had 420, 000 miles on his. I had the original engine and hybrid batteries in it and was going strong. Do Priuses have an oil pump that runs when the engine is stopped?

In VW cars if you have VCDS or OBDEleven, you can change the Auto Start/Stop battery voltage threshold to something like 12v instead of the standard 7v. This makes the start/stop part of the ECU think the battery voltage is too low to use the Start/Stop feature. The car will not turn off if you stop at a light and you do not have to fiddle with the button every single time you drive. The only downside might be that the there is a superficial warning about the battery being too low to use start/stop, even though the voltage is perfectly fine.

Scotty HELP My 10 year old Ram1500 at random when starting, it makes this really ugly sound like a lawnmower running over sticks or rocks or when the battery is dead and it hums and clicks when it's supposed to roll over. I stop and restart the ignition process and it starts up just fine. It's only happened two or three times so far about a month apart. I believe it has only happened on cold starts. Other than that it works amazing. What's the deal?

Scotty, what should I go with? 1998 Lexus ES 300 (600) higher millage about 200k. Clean paint but I looked under the hood and it was missing power steerng fluid, the car makes a sound at lower speeds. Interior is dirty is a bit worn. Or my other option is a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse (1000, engine looks to be in great shape as well as transmission withabout 120k miles only needs a paintjob. Interior is immaculate

I'm waiting patiently for a long comprehensive video on how bad auto shops scam good customers and how to spot their tricks to steal money right in front of you. I've had too many bad experiences, I'm thinking of giving up cars altogether. How Scotty, HOW in the world do we find honest mechanics, because honestly man, they seem to NOT exist and the automotive repair industry lives of scamming car owners.

My family bought a FIAT 128 and loved it. The turning radius was small, there was plenty of room in the back seat, peppy and great in snow. I'm from St. Catharines near where you lived but in Canada. Unfortunately the car did not suffer from planned obsolescence but rather disintegration as the metal skin fell apart. And since it was unibody. hahahaha

NATURAL GASYou can make any car to run on natural gas, in Russia you can, a kit cost just 500. You got propane tank in the back, and a switch on your dash, you flip the switch and it turns on propane, flip it again and it runs on gasoline. If the price makes sense in USA then why not install a propane kit, you can even order one from Russia.

Scotty, I washed my car with dishwashing soap once and the areas that were covered by the soap lost its shine after a while. Your car is protected by wax and dishwasher will remove that wax big time. Your supermarket wax will not work as good as the original wax. Heed my advice. I learnt the hard way.

I use dishwashing liquid with hot water, i find it perfectly fine and much better than car wash detergent. Your Lexus paint has lasted so long because its top quality paint with a top quality clear coat. I used to work in an auto paint factory, and the difference between car paints can be enormous.
