The AGV has some unique features like i. e. every coach it's a single extrusion of aluminum which is then properly closed at the two extremes and windows are subsequently cut. It features the unique in it's category distributed traction that gives the vehicle a very weird wheel arrangment UIC code (Bo'2'2'Bo'2'Bo'2'2'Bo'2'2'Bo) but also features a very special (secret) design brushless motor type which is able to deliver a huge amount of power in nearly half the size of a competitor motor. It also features Jackobs type bogies, which means every bogie it's between two coaches making the whole vehicle very low and able to achieve interesting aerodynamic performances and also the uncompensated mass it's so low and the center of gravity is so low that it's probably the safest high speed train existing.
It's designed to work both with common italian tracks power supply at 3kVcc and high speed tracks european standard 25kVca, but there's also a version that supports french common supply (1, 5kVcc) and the Swiss-Austrian power supply standard (15kVca. The vehicle itself it's able to run up to 400km/h but the italian rail system owner approved only 300Km/h (there are rumors about an unfair move to favor the Frecciarossa 1000 which has been approved for 350Km/h on the very same tracks without proving to offer any higher safety features.

When I was booking a trip from Milan to Rome I debated between Trenitalia and NTV. After looking at your nicely produced video I am glad I chose Trenitalia because NTV looks like second rate operation through and through. The dynamic streamlined exterior only heightens the disappointment when you step aboard this cramped train with passengers packed in like sardines and leg room resembling a bus or airline coach class. Those vending machines are the ultimate insult and a real turn off. I require a cafe so I can relax with a glass of of good Italian wine and chat with other passengers while watching the passing scenery roll by - which is the reason I travel by train in the first place! Nothing about NTV/AGV looks inviting or suggests a comfortable trip so thanks again for warning me.

A private company wouldn't be able to construct such a colossal project. -
The infrastructure cost over 41 billion Euros and was paid by the EU and the Italian government. -
And only 50% of the 5000 km track has been converted to allow high speed. -
Italo pays 150 million each year for the use of the infrastructure. -
Upto 2014/2015 they had a loss of 74 million Euro-
in 2015 they increased their capital by 100 million-
there first gain was in 2016 for 20 million. -
Since they birth of Italo, they have a loss of 200 million. -
2018 gain of 93 million-
Their debt has reduced by 9. 3 million reaching 433, 7 million.
Due to the Corona Virus, if they do not receive government compensation, they will most probably be declared bankrupt.

Today I watched a technical report on German TV about this train based on a journey from Milan to Rome at 300 km / h. A disaster occurred during a scheduled stop, at least when it happened in Germany was perceived as a medium disaster: -Cars are in reverse order- (Wagen in umgekehrter Reihenfolge. The Italians pushed through each other just as headlessly, so the train started its onward journey with a 2-minute delay. As a German, I had a lot of fun. - Greetings to all fans of high speed trains, Heinz

Milan, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples. and so much more!
So much beauty, so much to see. And now you can get there on these beautiful and super-comfortable trains. I was there last year (Venice-Bologna-Florence-Rome) year and was hoping for another visit this year (Naples, Rome, Milano, Torino) but it will have to wait another time. I wish more countries would follow Sweden's example.

Milano centrale is one of the most beautiful stations in the world. I travelled from Milano centrale to Interlaken ost in May 2019 on a frecciarrossa( there is a short change of train in between though-freciarrossa stops at Spiez and then the BLS takes over from there to Interlaken ost) It was the best train journey of my life. The towns, lakes, mountains along the way are so beautiful.

That livery on the Italo is seriously one of the best I've seen
No joke, you're got the new TGV and InOui trains looking like they were designed by goddamn telecom companies, you got all those trains in Britain that look like they're still stuck in the 80s, and then comes the Italo with this Ferrari-like paintjob that just _works_

I'VE BEEN TO MILANO CENTRAL BEFORE
Back in 2004 or so my family went on a trip to Europe and while I don't remember the look of the overhead ceiling on the platforms, I definitely remember the exit facade being like that. Basically went from Madrid to there and then from Milan to Venice.
Thank you for the video!

I-ve just two things to say, the first looked like the lack of luggage space as passengers seamed to have it by there feet when you walked through, and secondly, at least we have -quiet coaches- in the U. K. where the use of mobile phones is prohibited - otherwise looked a great train.

Nice train, but showing films on the screens is a bit pointless now everyone has a phone or tablet that they can watch films on it they want with headphones. Better WiFi would be a better investment. I agree that being on the phone is annoying and should be kept brief.

In reality the train can hit 400 km/h, they are authorised to a maximum of 300km/h, unfortunately maintenance costs increase exponentially with increase of speed, as you see the average trip from Milan to Rome with a few small stops travels around 165 km/h.

Italy is by far the best country in Europe for prices (see competition) and quality of the service for the high speed trains. The network could and shoul be expanded (and if fact it will) but referring to the already the existing one, it is very good

By only operating one but the potentially most profitable Line it possible to be profitable, even more so if the Public Service provides the Grid delivering the Guests to that private Line. If they had to operate a Grid, they surely were not profitable.

They really should have a no cell phone policy on all trains unless you are in a private room. For all other cars it should be cell phone use allowed but only in the vestibules between cars. That would keep the use to a minimum elsewhere.

I enjoy your videos and reviews so much! My challenge is sometimes having difficulty reading the text. Is there a way to contrast the text and background better? Would make for an easier reading experience. Thanks from Canada --

Only 80 Euros for a last-minute ticket? That's amazing! Good luck getting that good a price for a last-minute Amtrak ticket, typically you'd have to pay at least double here in the states for the same situation.

I went from Naples to Rome on the Frecciarossa 1000 in July this year and that was impressive. Will do the same trip on the Italo at the end of next month. It'll be interesting to see how they compare.

Please spend a little time and evaluate the disabled facilities, ie, the bathroom and if doing a sleeper, get access to the disabled cabin, not all of us have legs that work and yet we still love trains.

It is so good that the italian trains ARE still running on time. they can thank Mussolini for that. The trains always ran on time when he was leader.

There needs to be a major whole-EU grip on high speed trains. Some countries get it, like France. We need TGV/AGV everywhere!
