What a great trip in South America Train. Token signalling is still common in few parts in Southeast Asia, and yes it requires some bravery from the train staff to deliver and pickup that. Some cars in that train consists are familiar like in my country, first is Luggage Car to store some oversize luggage. But today in my country, luggage car painted with Cargo name, so rail company also received some income from Package. And second is generator car, there are two type of Generator Car in my country, first is the Generator Car is fully occupied the car and the second is they share with Restaurant/Cafe Car.

In Malaysia we still use token system from town of Gemas to town of Tumpat. Our token shaped like a key with name of the station in there meanwhile from Padang Besar to Gemas an etcs system are being used while from Gemas to Johor we are upgrading to electrified double track and the signalling will be using etcs as well. In some place the semaphore signal still stand but was decommissioned from use

Way back in the 90s and early 2000s when the Mughalsarai-Lucknow section in Uttar Pradesh was non electrified in India the diesel loco pilots used to have this token system. I had seen the whole process while standing on a platform. And this I guess still happens in some parts of India. You should visit our country once. Railway experience isn't complete without the Indian Railway experience.

When I was younger this line had 12 services everyday, 24 services total
It allways was the fastest service, the publicity in the 70s was -to the beach in 4 hs and a little while-
Unfortunately in the 90s all went to decline, and Is not easy to get them recovered un a short time. I'm glad you enjoyed!

Here in Chile we also had CAF 593 trains renamed as TLD (Tren Ligero Diesel) circulating in the Victoria Temuco service, unfortunately they were withdrawn from service in 2021 replaced by modern DMU SFD 300 units manufactured by CRRC. Currently only one unit remains in working order for tourist services the TLD 503

Ah yes the token system is quite fascinating. I regularly take the Tarka Line here in UK, which goes from Exeter to Barnstaple in Devon, that has this system in place. They tend to stop and the drives leaves the cab to pick something up at a booth here though.

WoW! i never imagined South America had grand old railroad stations like the stunning structure in Buenos Aires. I didn't even know there were long distance intercity trains south of the border other than El Chepe in Mexico. Thanks for the education.

7: 12 They should have refurbished these.
8: 43 Noice!
9: 09 What? The folks at Trenes should have use the Ternkey System
11: 20 I bet they're still singing -Muchachos, ahora nos volvimos a ilusio. - oh, it was taped in 2021.

I was wondering if you could take this train, and I'm so envious you did! Getting a ticket during the summer is nearly impossible, so much that Trenes Argentinos implemented a mandatory check-in before departure for this season.

Token system of signalling is a story of distant past in Indian Railways sir. Indian Railways have marched far ahead now. Over 70% of the tracks are electrified now and 100% is the automation of signalling

Hi Thibault, great video and it looks like you had fun. How did you start drinking mate? One of my uncles is from Argentina and he made some for me. Tastes like a pleasant tasting grass beverage.
reply

Saludos desde Uruguay! You described the Argentinian landscape as vast. That's really a good word to describe it. Argentina always has a feeling of being a very big country-which it is.
reply

Hope one day you can do Mexico's Chihuahua Al Pacifico (known locally as El Chepe) from Chihuahua City to Los Mochis. Straight through the Sierra Madre mountains.

Looks like a very spacious driver's cabin. How many crew are there? 2 or 3? And by the way: did the attendant instruct you what to do in case of decompression?
reply

you should make the trip between Belho Horizonte en Minas Gerais, Brazil to Vitoria in th cost atlantic of Brazil a beautiful ride in a very modern train!
reply

As always, great video! I don't know how you did it but getting the crew to let you ride in the cab and tour the generator was priceless, well done.
reply

14: 10 This is actually a feature found on Chinese trains! I guess since these carriages are Chinese-built they carried over that feature too!
reply

Token system still use (common) in Thailand in Single Track system but it will be replaced when constructing double track with ETCS Level 1 System
reply

Very beautiful country. I have my doubts about a Chinese built locomotive. It seems like the British built Argentina's railroads.
reply

This is a really special video thanks to those amazing people of the crew. Thank you for showing us always beautiful reports-

The night train to mar del plata doesn't have sleeper car, there is also plugs in the central (table) seats of both classes.
reply

Say what you want about Trenes Argentinos, but you can't deny that the people working there absolutely love their job
reply

From this summer the restaurant its open for dinner and you can travel whit your car in this train whit special ticket
reply

Since you been in Toronto, it would be awesome if you could review the Union Pearson Express trains lol
reply

Yes, I agree taking the train is a great way to go to Mar del Plata from BA. Much better than the bus or flying!
reply

Thibault, you enjoyed a truly complete train ride this time, with a ride with the crew in the engine cab!
reply

Very dangerous leaning out of the train to grab the token a good way to lose your arm or life!
reply

and i just flew into Buenos Aries 4 days ago to go to Tucuman. timing. . very nice video.
reply

Are you riding backwards? Looks like it to me. Makes me dizzy. Oh riding in the engine is better.
reply

Great ride! Nice scenery! And a ride in the locomotive was perfect! Thanks Thibault. --
reply

Crazy that the token system is still in use! Better that than rely on crappy signals, I guess.
reply

The tocken system also used in east coast line in Malaysia (from Gemas to Tumpat)
reply

Nice video but you didn't tell us which of the many Argentinian track gauges it runs on.
