I remember stumbling into the Pentrex video on OY running in 1991, in my local library as a kid. Seeing her running again makes me unbelievably happy. Im glad they brought OY back, she had been looking quite rough and sad for the last 10 years. I hope theyll keep her in good and operating condition and make this a yearly thing. Thanks for the video Its nicely filmed and narratedOn a side note, you gotta wonder if theyll ever restore OM to operation. Last time she ran was back in the 70s and shes one of the oldest rotaries still in existence.

From photos railroads have used 6 or 7 locos to push the rotary up the grade and into the snow, particularly when the snow was almost as deep as the wheel. The last loco would be operated in reverse so when the outfit backed up a tender would not be in the lead to be easily derailed. Derailing any wheel while snow plowing is a royal pain. I can just imagine the sound of that many locos pushing for all they are worth and the roar of the rotary. A video of that would be priceless.

Our local regional railroad, The New Brunswick Southern Railroad uses a Jordan Spreader on the line from Saint John to McAdam, New Brunswick. This spring the Canadian Pacific Railroad return to Saint John after being gone for almost 40 years. Corporate ideas change.

Great video First time I have ever seen a K-36 wheel slip. They usually make mountain railroading look easy. I wonder if ALCO ever looked into installing turbo-electric drive on their rotary snowplows? The technology did exist in 1923.

I seriously need to check this line out. I've been to both the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic and the Durango and Silverton, but I haven't been to either line since I was younger. I need to see what's changed in 20 years.

anyone have any idea how efficient or how well that setup works compared to modern designs? wonder how well modern diesels would do as pushers in comparison, not nearly as cool, just thinking out loud.

Nicely done my friend. Hey Mike, this gets me thinking. Will you be going back to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad at any time to capture their recently restored K-37 class #493?
