Thank you for this, sir. Back in the mid-80s I had a lengthy freelance contract at TVS in Southampton and this vid' brought back a few memories of that early Monday morning journey. I see the dreaded Northam level crossing is still there - four tracks wide with both docks and passenger traffic, it was so busy to gates (in those days) stayed shut for up to 20-minutes to let several trains go though. Not a bundle of fun when sitting in the back of a taxi, off to the hotel Not far from there are / were the TVS Studios, on the banks of the mighty River Itchen, which had the uniqueness of having a rail line run through the car park. BR ran a train through once a year and there was a mad dash of staff to get the cars out. One year the annual train derailed and every one was covered in confusion. Man oh man, I could bore for England on this topic, so I'll stop-. I shall now sub.

Thank-you for the memories. I was in Southampton in the summer of 2001, and rode that very line half a dozen times in the span of a month. I also remember the dual tunnels there, but never knew the name. I remember that on some of the rides the engineer would toot the horn at those tunnels. low high entering, and then high low as they approached the end. Was it for rail workers? Seems that there wasn't enough time, but I just heard the horn here and then a short time later, there were workers on the tracks.

Thank you for the video in 4k. Save for the smear in the middle of the window, it's an excellent show and a good run. Must say that the British railway system is o/s. So many good runs I've seen, like London Bridge to Brighton and back and Brighton to Bedford amongst others. Now this. It is something to behold such heavy train traffic, moving at such high speeds. There's nothing like it no where else on this planet. Bravo.

Excellent quality. One of the best cab ride videos I've seen. You were lucky there; that track circuit failure at 50: 00 turned out to be due to defective track that meant that no trains were able to run later in the day, as I recall, trains had to be diverted (apart from one that was stranded in section and had to be abandoned)

Nice video I was only going to watch 10 minutes, but it drew me into the whole thing. My laptop died yesterday at Southampton Airport, but I just plugged it in now and watched the last few minutes. My home station is Farnborough Main (31 mins in, and because the view is so different, I didn't see it coming

30: 27 - under the Basingstoke canal, 30: 46 - across the Ascot line, then at 31: 02 - across the Reading/Guildford line and I live just down there on the left hand side. 31: 27 - through Farnborough on the down fast, there is a 6 cant on that curve, the max you will find in the country.

Fantastic journey. Well done SWT and Driver, this is my route to London. If we get some Snow later in the year that would be more Fantastic, if you can do Southampton Central to London Waterloo into the New Waterloo platforms, on a Snowy White Weather Day.

Longest high speed constantly ive seen and good. bet drivers love this route. why are the 3rd rails swapping? because of obstacles or wear on contacts. I assume this staying third rail not pylons? great video. didnt notice smudge on screen after a while.

My old homeward bound commute, Waterloo to Woking, 2005 to 2012. Loved the rest of the journey. Many thanks. I occasionally used to stand in the section between the units and look through window into the driver's position, fascinated by the controls.
