Running between Williams, AZ and the Grand Canyon's south rim, a distance of 64 miles, the Grand Canyon Railway has become a major tourist attraction and people mover since its re-opening in 1989. Built by the Santa Fe in 1901, the line is now owned by Xanterra Parks and Resorts. While the railroad canceled its regular steam operations in 2008, they still run ex-CBQ 2-8-2 4960 on select weekends throughout the year. In this video, you will see 4960 pulling trains in early August of 2014 as well as double heading with ATSF 3751 in May of 2012. Additionally, you will see some shots of the Grand Canyon Railway's fleet of F40FH locomotives pulling the regular trains to the canyon. For those of you wondering, Grand Canyon Railway 4960 will be making another more in-depth appearance in Steam Trains Galore Part 3

Wonderful Video. Thanks for posting it. When we were in Vegas we wanted to see the Grand Canyon. It would have been great to be able to go by train. Unfortunately the train does not to to Vegas.
We had to rent a car so we just took the car all the way to the Grand Canyon. We did go through Williams on the way, and saw the trains there. Too bad you can't take a train from Vegas to the Grand Canyon.

One other thing I wanted to ask if I may, and first off thanks for answering my question in regards to when the engenineer must sound the trains horn, but forgot to ask if I may, when is he required to actually start ringing the trains bell that it has on it, and how long must he keep ring it for til he can stop? Thanks again.

I love the sound of a train and trains! They make me sleepy and I live near by a train track and as a kid of 8 I used to play catch the train and was a real dare devil but ofcorse out grew that but love to watch trains from a distance now ofcorse but love the train sounds!

Sorry Mike. I was very disappointed to see at least one diesel in almost every shot. To me, that takes away the effect of riding behind a live steamer, much the same way it was when SP 4449 ran across the Montana Hi-Line with an Amtrak diesel behind it.

I need 3 minutes of a steam train pulling passenger cars. I will trade original train tunes. My dad was a steam locomotive engineer for 40 years in the Minnesota iron mines pulling ore cars out of the open pits to a GN spur.

Thank you, Mike. That is a trip that I dream of taking. The old stainless steel Budd cars are a nice sight and seeing the double head with 3751 out there in the pines and on the desert is a fine thing.

I would imagine pretty soon this means #4960 will be taken out of service permanently meow meow. Because revenue railroads don't usually use steam locomotives anymore. #4960 may need a new home

Mike, thanks for renewing my memories as a child. I smile when thinking about my father and I walking about a mile to see a fast express train that took about 10 seconds to pass. Sweet!

Another great video, and of a line I've been trying to get on for years! Besides that, you're local to us in San Diego, so do you ever go to shows or do you have DVDs for sale?
