TRAIN DRIVER'S VIEW: Up and down in the foggy Flm valley - RailCowGirl

Transition time from high season to low season on the Flm Line. Trains are now shorter and two train service is only running part of the day. Being the first train up in the morning can prove quite challenging when the rails are really slippery, like today. leafs falling on to the track and getting squished by the wheels makes it even more challenging. You can put a monkey to drive a train, but it takes real finesse and craftsmanship to anticipate, adjust and being able to stay on very edge of wheelspinn while climbing the steep 55 (5. 5%, 1: 18) gradient, basically the ability to read the rails. The fog was laying thick in the valley and the rain was pouring down. When changing direction at Myrdal it didn't take long before I was soaked on my back. Thank goodness for the good heating on the EL18. nice and slow trip, very nice to see the scenery especially in the fall. Managed to take 4 or 5 frames via screen capture, mostly water run off, a cottage scene just out of the other end of the line, and perhaps the best one is of the trees decked out in yellow just before going into a tunnel which I might turn the tunnel into a cascading falls. Fog and rain, reminds me of Vancouver island, wet, wind, and wet. Very nice.

Hey Holy Cow Girl. Great journey through the mountains. Is there any train going beyond Myrdal? Would love to travel a lot further before turning back. Thanks for the tour in the train coaches. Lovely interiors. Loved the camera walk through the rain at the stations. Does it rain so much in Norway?

OK HCG, I see that the yellow diamond signs trackside mean blow the horn but inside of the diamond what is the meaning of the vertical and horizontal lines? Love your videos; they are the best! Greetings from California.

Another great video and I'm learning a lot from John Waters but can you tell me if you're ever scared in such dark areas, trying to safety check the train? I would be a little worried: D.

Really love the videos. How are you finding the new GoPro? Is it a noticeable improvement in quality? I'm not massively discerning on video quality so can never tell the difference.

This may be your most beautiful trip yet. The beetling cliffs and pines looming in the mist, the waterfalls and tumbling rivers. its like an Arthur Rackham painting brought to life!

How great that you filmed this during the fall, my favorite time of year! Even with the rain and fog, the scenery is still fantastic!

Very nice exploration of the beautiful Norwegian rail tracks. Just interesting and nice to see the rugged but scenic countryside.

These train stops where no one is waiting to get on, I assume someone has signaled to get off is that correct.

Question: Are they adding lighting to some of the tunnels? I do not remember them in those locations before.
