Couple builds shipping container home off grid - growing taro/kalo & pounding homemade poi - ep. 167 Steven: So cool that you guys are building out of shipping containers that adds added security when you re off at your tropical paradise to keep bears away or out of your housing. Very cool keep that in mind when you do your doors to have some sort of bear proof door to keep them from getting in and windows use that square tubing to create bars to keep the Bears out or temporary bars that you can install just before you leave to go to your tropical paradise.

Your videos has cheered me up during the darkest part of my life. From the day you arrived to komorebi in your van where you would collect water from a stream and cook outside, using your car port to protect you from the elements, to your pandemic garden to building pizza oven, hippie hot tub, your bunk houses, watching nicole grew big with fox to actually having fox, going to your tropical property and now having shipping containers to build, just really inspires me. I feel a certain connection with you guys because of the constant challenges we face, different as it may seem, me being a financially distraught mom trying really hard to support my kids through college and you doing the best you can to provide the best future for Fox and his soon to be siblings. Every project you finish, inspires me to keep moving because everything will have its own beautiful ending. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

Excellent video! Fox is Walking! He is not afraid of anything! Over 30 years ago I had the good fortune to caretake a B&B on the Big Island of Hawaii for 2 months. There was a brand new Taro Patch, I was instructed to keep it alive, plus run the B&B, take care of guests, and the landscaping around the B&B. On this acreage was also a large organic garden, plus two large tanks with Orange Fish in them. I can appreciate what you are doing, Jake & Nicole. Then flash back to Komar Reddi, whew! The container idea is awesome, cannot wait to see how you develop them into your new Chalet! Rest well, eat well and create a mystical place for all of us to Enjoy Vicariously! Thank you, Namaste Trudy

all nice talking about waste and environment. great videos. .but VERY hypocrite. flying back and forth between properties, travelling instead of REALLY planting roots and stick to one place. Truly insincere story you tell youre subs, why not tell about the polluting planes you both use to travel to those destinations many times a year? (and the gas you use to get supplies and travel from a to b? HONESTY and transparicy. Myself i am truly selfsufficient. even a net negative over the board. and no need to travel the world to fullfill my personal needs while in the same breath talk about the worlds pollution by waste and carbonemissions.

It's amazing how far you both have come jake and nicole, little bit shocked by how much weight you have lost nicole, I really hope you are looking after yourself, because being a mum can be challenging at the best of times, even more so if your not looking after yourself, just to add I'm not saying this to have a pick at you it's coming from a place of being worried and concerned about you. Much love to all of you and definitely little Mr fox what a gem he is

From an old martial artist to a younger one. heres a trick to carry long logs. Get 4 foot of rope and tie toggles (loops on both ends) then slip it under the log half way down the length. grab the toggles and stand up with your feet on either side. balancing the log a few inches off the ground you can walk it much easier then that flipping thing. Love watching your life and wonderful family adventures(exp. the turtles. take care

Container Flooring, Pesticides: Look into the pesticides embedded into the container flooring. Either replacing the flooring or concrete fill once installed.
Typically the floors in shipping containers are made from tropical hardwoods which have been treated with crude pesticides. These harsh chemicals are dangerous to humans and so it is not recommended to use the existing plywood flooring

Fantastic idea! There is a guy on you tube that built a mansion with a built in shop in the middle of the woods out of Metal storage containers, cement, steel and glass. He built it because it's fire proof and inexpensive compared to a normal built house. a normal built house also wouldn't stand up to what his house can.

You have to use only one language until he learns to speak: experienced advise
Children get confused between language and make that kind of bubbling: Once he starts talking you may start another one.
My son s speech therapist strictly asked us to use only one language when I took him for delayed speech.

The Poi that I had in Hawaii must have been sour not fresh cause did not like it. It was very purple perhaps a different variety. Looking forward to the builds of the Earth ship. How I love the off grid gardens are really looking great. FOX is so cute love his sense of his surrounds. He is well balanced.

What kind of wood is that? The food you are mashing looks like mashed potato. I am trying to imagine how it tastes. Is it poi?
I LOVE and miss Komorebi. I will admit it does get cold in winter but 3/4 of the year, so divine. I so love the yurt.

Malanga is a root vegetable that's commonly used in South America, Africa, and some tropical regions. It has a texture similar to. In Cuba We peel and put in the beans in the soups and we also make malanga puree, like potatoes

How exciting! A new home using recycled materials. The shipping container homes, when put together, are dynamite! You will have an enormous home with 6 40ft containers. I'm looking forward to watching the progress.
