This week Op-Docs brings you Unsilenced, a short film by director Betzab Garca, and the final chapter in A Moment in Mexico, our special six-part series of Op-Docs by Mexican directors. Unsilenced tells the story of Atilano Romn Tirado, who led a resistance movement of hundreds of families displaced by the construction of the massive Picachos dam in northwestern Mexico. He was eventually assassinated, on-air, while hosting As es mi tierra, his radio show for fellow displaced residents. I remember the first time we spoke, Garcia says. His eyes radiated strength and courage. He told us that the show was his mission, that someone had to be at the front of the movement.

These stories of oppression at this particular moment in time, for us today on the brink of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, are eternal. This is the fabric of humanity; to overcome and show our resilience in whatever measure we can. We rise from each of these lives who have led and held up a light for us to follow, as we then may raise our fellow humanity. I will rise up. Will you join me?
