The whole James Bond furore baffles me. Admittedly I feel like the character should be retired like the relic of a bygone age that he is, but regardless, I think most of us follow the accepted wisdom that James Bond is as much a codename as 007, and as such, ethnicity is by no means relevant in this situation. Pretty much the only two Bonds to look any similar are Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan. Also the upper-class background argument that troglodyte Katie Hopkins spouted is complete cobblers, because it suggests it is impossible for a black person to have such a background in present day. Granted there may be fewer of them, but they aren't some mythical unicorn one can only dream of existing. I also do have to genuinely wonder whether or not the figures are in fact skewed in the case of male athletes out of fear of appearing weak and thus fewer of them admitting to it. I actually have to ask whether the figure might not be higher for both men and women due to such an environment. As for the matter of the school itself, I just have to take my own wrestling training into consideration - you sweat, you hurt, sometimes you even throw up, but the trainers are always understanding. They always make sure that you're up to what they're about to put you through, they're no-nonsense, but they're always fair. As such I just look at this whole situation and regard it as monstrous on the part of those who did indeed push that kid that far, especially as my mum and several of my friends all suffer from seizures.

I think the problem with casting Bond as non-white is inviting themes that have nothing to do with 007 into the movie franchise like him being oppressed or overcoming stereotypes and stuff like that. Don't get me wrong those are great themes for movies to cover, but I'm just saying that James Bond isn't the place for that, he is the Chuck Norris of spies in the sense that he is the best, he does not loose and he is not an oppressed character, he is meant to be privileged and have lavish out of reach adventures. If you leave these themes out and stick to typical Bond content it's fine, but I just honestly don't see it happening without his identity being affected and if you change his identity it isn't Bond anymore. To be honest I wasn't not happy that Daniel Craig was Blond Bond I wanted another black haired suave guy and even if I enjoyed Daniel Craig's iterations in the franchise I still feel like something was off and I know I'm not the only one, many people were upset about something as small as hair color, for many this has nothing to do with race, it's about change pure and simple, people will call racism to those who reject the change but in most cases they will be wrong, it's about change. (I do think some will reject the change because of racism though, I'm not blind to that fact)

Let Jordan Peele help pen a new Bond, where early on Elba is established as the main villain bent on not only taking down MI6, but also destroying everything Bond holds dear due to a similar situation as black panther, him being an illegitimate half brother to Bond himself, playing on Bonds inherent white privilege, which allows him to exist in places that he cannot as easily, dealing with prejudice etc. He kidnaps Bond and uses tech to essentially switch bodies with Bond, so that he can go unnoticed to take down things from the inside, while Bond now as Elba, must figure out how to stop him, with no one believing him to be the real Bond. Towards the end of the movie he does prove himself to be Bond, yet his brother still in Daniel Craig's body, gives a long Heath Ledger type speech about how he just wants to bring chaos into the world and how he wanted to show Bond how the other half lives, as he sacrifices himself, in the hideout where they first switched places, blowing up the machine and himself leaving Bond stuck in his new body. Gives Craig the out he has wanted and establishes Elba leaving the potential for another movie, but would also wrap up the new Bond flicks very well.

About Idris Elba, I don't really care that much, mostly because the movies have deviated from the source material tremendously already anyway and Bond's always felt morel ike an idea than a character to me. It's not the same as when they made the Human Torch black because that either caused plot holes or for large swaths of backstory to have to be rewritten to make that work. Even if the ethnicity isn't vital to a character, it can still be jarring to change it. On top of it also being counter-productive because a much more lasting and positive way of getting more diversity on your screen is to just make NEW characters that happen to be black, or whatever you want. Just taking something else and making it into something it wasn't is pointless and vulnerable to backlash. Regardless, whether Elba gets the role or not, I'm fine with either. One thing of note though, isn't he in his mid-forties? They're not going to get a whole lot of use out of him before he becomes too old for the role, no? Though I guess the current Bond is rather old too.

can you not brag about how dedicated you and your team are to not getting things right? Some of us come from different environments, but do speak english, and can follow you quite easily, and you do get, many, so many things wrong. when you talk about youtubers, I neither know, nor care whether you're being accurate, but when you start talking about world politics, your investigation of the topic to be just cursory glance on what mainstream media has to say on the topic. if mainstream isn't talking about it, you don't talk about it. if mainstream is trying to start a war with iran, north korea, russia, whomever, you're trying to start a war with those same places. you have no idea what is going on in those places, and most of all, as an average americanazi who's never seen something truly bad happen to you, you don't know what war is other than that infinite reality tv show embedded in a news cycle. you don't do any investigation that would be worth mentioning, or that constitutes at any degree time consuming, and neither does your team.

I dont think I commented but if I did sorry for the repeat. When they announced who the new James Bond was back then, my mom and I were so disappointed we didnt think Daniel Craig could do it. He was this figure in our heads dark hair, dark eyes though Im pretty sure Pierce has blue eyes, but he had a certain suave to him. And Daniel Craig, I remember my mom and I just looked at each other and said What the hell? No, thats not gonna work hes going to be a terrible Bond its not James Bond. When we saw the movie we were blown away, we didnt realize this was the Bond we needed. It made sense. We were silent and at awe. So I get the backlash but after Daniel Craigs amazing acting and how this Bond was written Im looking forward to a potential Idris Elba or someone of his disposition. It has nothing to do with his race in my opinion, its just how Idris Elba body language, the way he talks, his air he gives off in his acting. He would be great. But he is older and they should go for a younger bond that can grow.

I'm one of those people that always thought James Bond was his codename and to me, that justified why there were so many iterations of him. They all exist in one timeline, one universe, but when one retires another assumes the position. So when Idris Elba became a possibility I was like. sure. Lol. He's ana amazing actor and has both the swagger and the eloquence. But I can kind of see the other side. It irks me when a character is written or imagined in a certain way only to then be changed. Sometimes it works, like Nick Fury, but other times it doesn't. like the Dragon Ball and Last Airbender movies (for obvious reasons. In my mind, I will continue to believe that James Bond is just a codename and will continue to patiently wait for Idris Elba to take on the role. If not he can be the next Doctor.

I think it would be amazing instead of rehashing the bond film story lines that they instead focus on one of the other 00's. Why not give Idris Elba a different 00 number, start an entire new brand, show off other 00's. I would love to know more about the organization as a whole, the people who run it, and the stories of other 00's. Bond is Bond, and he's honestly a little boring. Give me something new, interesting, without any story line handcuffs. Don't give me another smarmy, self-confident womanizer, but instead a breath of fresh air, maybe more along the lines of some of his other roles, perhaps strong and silent, perhaps disarmingly intelligent, something new. I don't want a new Bond. I want a new story, and Elba has the chops to pull it off.

all you people arguing about not making james bond black make me laugh because you all act like james bond hasnt gone through MULTIPLE different looking actors over the past 50 some years. james brolin and daniel craig look NOTHING alike, yet they played the same person with zero change in his backstory or plot. so what is the damn difference if they stick a black man in the role? he is just another james bond, regardless of skin color, hair color, looks, etc. james bond is literally about the character and who he is as a person, clearly not what he looks like or else he would not have changed drastically actor wise the past. his skin color shouldnt matter actor wise, the ability to become james bond and how well they do it should be all that matters.
