Why We Need to Talk About The Alex Jones InfoWars Ban, & The Bangladesh Student Protests Explained angyzm92: I would agree with a lot of the comments that hate speech is far too vague and definitely not a good reason to ban someone since it can be very subjective. Essentially, someone's negative opinion of something, some group, or someone could be deemed as hate speech. Insulting, offending or intimidating language isn't pleasant but should not be grounds for banning unless you're under some specific platform for children or it's mentioned as rules for the platform (which the platforms claim but their definitions are still in my opinion too vague and still left to the discretion of the companies. Ex: explicit songs and content are still on YT and Spotify, but that can definitely be insulting or offensive to generic I think a better reason to ban a person might be that they incite violence against a group or person, and/or promote libel and slander. Alex Jones does, time and time again, encourages his viewers and followers to join him in some vague finger guns gathering and sprinkles in it's not a joke, it's not a game and then politically for what I'm guessing is plausible deniability for future Pizza Gate scenarios. Free speech does not protect people when they incite lawless action. I think the companies should have banned him based on his incitement of violence and lawless action, such as the shooting related to the Pizza Gate conspiracy, the defamation of the incorrectly labelled shooter of Parkland and defamation of the Sandy Hook victims (on top of encouraging followers to target the parents -- ie: showing maps of their residence. As private corporations, they are very much able to shut out whoever. As companies that still depend on support from all kinds of people, I think they should be smarter and more specific as to why they would shut out people and point out specific behavior, language, etc. to make it more clear to other people on the platform. That's my two cents.

The big tech company companies have forgotten that they are big because of capitalism and the freedoms of democracy. Now because of the leftist extremists who claim to care about diversity but call for censorship of anyone who has a different political opinion, these tech companies have banned infowars. Its unclear if this liberal push is being funded by the communist party of China or if Silicon Valley lives in and ideological bubble but if they are taking the communist party of Chinas money like we know google is doing than I would like to warn them that they are being short sighted. They may pay you today with their currency thats only worth as much as they say it is while they continue to devalue it but one day when they are powerful enough and have stolen all of your technology they will no longer have any use for your tech companies and the money they have payed you will also have no use. Let the American people decide for themselves what content they view and what they believe. If someone says something thats crazy people just laugh and forget about it but if they speak some truth and hit a nerve thats when people react with the same extreme that these tech companies have with their censorship

Philip DeFranco If this were simply a case of freedom of speech or expression I would very like come down on InfoWars side, but 180 degrees opposition to what InfoWars is and does. They are the accepted evolution of FoxNews by a large swath of Far-Right, Neo-Cons and especially 45 supporters who, while EVERYONE WATCHED, normalized hate speech, hate actions, pulling the very thinly veiled hate in this nation off, normalizing that as well. 45 has also normalized hate groups like white nationalists, white pride, aryan nation, new-nazis, knights of the KKK, skinheads and the number of Christian Ministry hate groups is frightening, all came out of shadows with 45. Giving larger audiences to things like infowars. 45 saying there are good people among the hate groups gathered, armed to the teeth AND giving equal responsibility to counter protestors. This systemic acceptance of hate speech has lasted nearly 2 years, unchecked and unchallenged. It is time for responsible media providers of ALL kinds to say hate speech, showing violence as a hint to incite said violence. If New Media has to lead the way and traditional media increasingly irrelevant, so be it.

The truth is like a lion; you dont have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself. I don't like Alex Jones. I never watched his show nor have I ever thought him to be in any way relevant to the political discussion. I thought he was just an insane conspiracy theorist, if not a con-man, and I do still believe that most of what he claims is bollocks. But to see such a coordinated and oppressive manoeuvre to censor him, I can't help but think that he must have uncovered something that he should not have. Either that or he is just a canary in the coal mine, an attempt to see if they can get away with such blatant abuse of the public. Such a thing cannot be tolerated, because if you let them ban him, one day they are going to ban PDF, and the next day who knows. We can't give them this power.

I say, great. Its simple. have whatever opinion you want, but be respectful. Use facts instead of being lazy or instead of using extreme fear mongering. So what if the companies dont want hateful people on their platform? Some companies dont want to sell cakes to gay people. Fine. Dont go there, dont shop there or just dont give your money to the places with values you dont like. If you want to spew hate that badly, go start your own platform where that is welcome and reasonable people arent allowed. I say its about time we fight this divisive and hateful rhetoric. Its making us dumb. Also, I think this should be applied equally and not abused to silence all opposing opinions. I do think we should see where this goes. Maybe people will learn to disagree without hate.

There has been a tactic of censors for centuries; they start with someone who is so utterly hated, and marginalized, that everyone is so blinded by their hatred of the first censorship target, that they cheer, and forget that they are endorsing a principle and power that will then expand. Its kind of annoying that everyone has to express how much they hate alex jones before slightly defending the principle that censorship is bad. I wonder if people like DeFranco will regret not making a solid stand against this vague censorship down the road, when they get banned for whatever the new reason is to ban people.

Louis Farrakhan openly calls Jews demons not de-platformed from any of these companies. When you tear a man's tongue out you haven't proven that man a liar you've only shown you're afraid of what he's saying. Lizard People conspiracy confirmed. Congratulations you've taken down a character actor. Shown that these companies do collude to chose what is on their platform. So everyone that sees something wether it's an Antifa member encouraging fire bombings, radical religious extremists encouraging the murder of gays. The Society for Cutting Up Men these groups are now endorsed by these corporations.

sry bro, the Its their company they can do what they want. argument falls flat when you realize that youtube and google are pretty much a monopoly, meaning that this DOES become a first ammendment issue. Also the fact facebook youtube spotify and google seems to have. .. colluded with each other to ban him at the same time(which is illegal btw) gives some credibility to say that AJ has been deprived of his right for free speech. America, land of the free. Well this is why I am now using adblock for all of youtube. I wasnt before, but who cares now. maybe yt will crash and burn.

I think banning content that is in the circle of political opinion which Alex Jones is, should not be an option, as this is literally controlling peoples free will to think what they want as these tech companies are not private companies anymore, they are monopolies. I think what is appropriate is scrutiny to whatever views, but not censorship. unless the content is obviously damaging for example, beheadings or radicalisation on the left or right (directly calling for violence, censorship is not an answer as lines are blurry and warped to match whoever is in power in these companies

This is clearly a coordinated effort to control the political position of the masses, via filtering social media. There are known terrorists with facebook pages. This is a feature of Phil D taking NO position at all, to serve himself and his own position. a democrat playbook move. Why not stand for the facts. if you remove that which you don't agree with, you're simply creating a virtual concentration camp, or promoting segregation. Surprise for the democrats being they were the slave owners in the US and the Nazi party modeled their laws after that of the democrats.
