If we limit roles to the people who fit the character to a T we limit the insight someone from a different background & a different perspective might have on that character. One of the things I love about acting and seeing people perform is the choices the individual actors make & their thoughts on that character and the situation the character finds themselves in. I'm disabled and in my community, I see a lot of discourse about disabled actors playing disabled characters but I personally don't think that's important, also where would you stop could only actors with x disability play a character with that disability? I think it's a bit convoluted honestly. Also, I don't want someone to get a job because of their minority status I want them to get the job on their own talent and merit, doesn't it always feel better when you get a job because you earned not because they had to?

I understand being angry about misrepresentation in Hollywood but that one story shouldnt be an example of this. I can understand if a character was lets say Chinese and it was extremely important to the story that this character is Chinese. if they casted a white person for that role and kept the same story for that person and changed his/her looks to fit that character then by all means be angry about that but saying an actor cant play a character because they are not gay is just not right so long as the actual character is played correctly and they didnt say no to actors auditioning for the character because they are gay. I think so long as they play the character accurately then this is fine plus we should be celebrating that an openly gay character is in a Disney movie at all if we are being honest here

Why only constrict gay roles to gay actors? ITS ACTING If Jack Whitehall can fit the character better then any gay person they could have gotten, then he deserves that role. Also its a Disney movie idk if they would heavy hand the struggles of gay people in today's society or go into any social commentary. Gay people want that equality, to be seen in the same light as everybody else but confine themselves into this crowd of people who want to be above everybody when they outrage over these little things. Basically saying an actor can't ACT well enough to play a gay person. Now obviously this isn't all gay people but it is the outspoken ones who make the rest seem overly forceful in this gay pride movement.

Why is there such debate over the casting? Professionals in entertainment decide who is most fit for the role based on the pool of acting professionals they are aware of. The deciding of who is hired is based on the directors and producers (writers sometimes) of a project on who they think is best. Who THEY think can do it. We, as consumers, are choosing to absorb that entertainment and maybe have opinions, but the opinions of uninvolved parties arent logical. The arguments of someone not being a certain way when their profession is being something else is absolutely bonkers. Let professionals do their job, let them audition or for a role according to creators. If the content is a flop, its a flop.

Personally, as an lgbt person myself, I don't care if straight people play gay characters. It really doesn't matter. Gay actors still have just as much opportunity as straight actors. As long as the straight actors are respectful in their portrayal, then it is still good representation. However, the area where I do take offense, is in the case of cisgender actors playing trans characters, for the main reason that actors are always cast in the character's birth gender, thus completely belittling the character's identity. The casting of actors for trans roles is still overwhelmed by society's transphobia, the casting of gay roles however, is not.

The fact that he uses dehumanizing language about anyone in his position as POTUS is an issue, period. That he continually uses it against people of color that he wants his supporters to see as other is even more appalling, and the fact that it is becoming normalized behavior is sickening. Now the whole Omarosa taping everybody thing. .. they really should have seen it coming a mile away. While I think it was possibly done for CYA reasons, it's still a really shady practice. Then it begs the question why at least 2 people in 45's sphere of influence thought it necessary to tape conversations with him and/or with others when discussing him.

At this point, I am glad she recorded the damn conversations because I would be one of the ones not believing Omarosa based on what she was saying when she was employed by the white house (and even before to be honest. She is absolutely right in thinking that no one would believe her if she didn't have tapes because look people are still saying she is lying even with the evidence. So for the press, it now becomes it's not that we want to humor her or accommodate her attention seeking, its that her attention seeking has come with real receipts, actual facts to back up what she says, so we HAVE to accommodate her attention seeking.

Regarding the always recording conversations. My phone records all conversations by default. A 3 hour call is something like 10mb, I have 128GB on the phone. For the few years I've had it, it's barely over a gig in size with every conversation I've ever had recorded on it without me even pressing any buttons. It just automatically does it. The app is called CallRecorder. So I totally believe that she would still have recordings from that time. I have recordings of calls from 2006 on a shitty Nokia. It's just something I've always found valuable to me since I like the idea that I can leave permanent tracks in history.

I think the issue with casting isn't that people who aren't gay can never be allowed to portray gay people. The issue is that it's difficult to be cast as ANYTHING in Hollywood if you're gay. Straight people get cast as straight people, straight people get cast as gay people, and gay people get to keep waiting tables. If you're trying to cast a gay role, you have to wade through a sea of talented gay actors who don't get enough work to find the one straight actor (who probably could get plenty of work playing any other role) to cast instead. It wouldn't be a problem if gay actors had the same chances as straight actors.
