Reason why I don't smoke as well my parents stop smoking and drinking when I was a baby. But my other family members smoke and so many of them are suffering from smoke-related problems/die from it. And just this year I watched my grandmother died from it. She was diagnosed with lung cancer but actually beat it. But wouldn't give up smoking. It came back and it came back worse. We watched her slowly wither away and it was so awful. It was not living. I was in the hospital watching her on a machine that barely was keeping her alive and we watched her take her last breath well she had passed away long before that but the machine was keeping some of her body alive. It was an awful experience. Some of the people in the room smoked and they still smoke even after seeing what's they're going to have to go through. It's honestly just crazy. I already was never planning on smoking but that makes me not want to more than I already do. I wish she was was still here and if she had stopped smoking a long ago she could be here with us now. I know addiction is hard. Trust me. But please know there's help out there for you

My brother was in an accident and got prescribed oxycodone. His doctor cut him off abruptly. He got sick. A friend shot him up telling him he'd feel better. He did. Years of overdoses and rehabs later he killed himself thinking he'd never win the battle. People get hooked in all kinds of ways, but you can't think they want to stay that way. People hate and judge them, almost as much as they do themselves. I know of 3 other people we went to school with that killed themselves for the same reason. and countless others that OD'd. Whose to say some of those aren't on porpose. Its so sad. This situation damn near destroyed my parents. In their eyes he was still their little boy. It hurts them when people use the word junkie, or talk down on them. I feel all people are entitled to their own opinions, but when expressed so negatively it only hurts the biggest victims in these situations, the families that love unconditionally.

my mom grew up in northern canada. you'd think it'd be different there, but it's not. when a priest commits a crime, they aren't fired, they were just sent north; less people. because of where my mom lived, she got the shittiest priests; the ones that had been moved 3 or 4 times. she says that it was just a fact that you were never alone with the priest. and you never, ever, let your child be alone with the priest. alas, her brother still fell victim to them, along with a lot of other boys she knew (many of the priests were gay pedophiles, which is why they became priests in the first place, to avoid getting married. it's so sad, though, that it was just such a common, normal thing, that it didn't even phase them. it was common sense that the priest (especially if he was new) was a pedophileand it was an unspoken, nevertheless mutually understood law that you never had one-on-one time with him.

I was presicribed pain pills at 12 yrs old until i turned 18. As a result i became addicted, my parents never thought anything bc a 'doctor' gace them. Only my close friends knew I was addicted. I was a funtionng addict, went to school and work every day. I went to an outpatient rehab to get help, it helped at the time but just traded one addiction for another. The clinic I went to was just a legal drug dealer, like the doctors I went to before, giving me way to much medicine. Even tho I havent had a pain pill in 7 yrs now I going through withdrawls bc of what was suppose to help me turned outto be worse than anything I could have bought on the street. There has been over 200 overdose deaths in the city i live in this year. In the city I live in almost everyone is or has been addicted to something.

Unpopular opinion incoming: I don't think it's right to release the information of the priests accused of pedophilia without having a trial. I don't know what evidence was provided to the Grand Jury to prove that some of the priests were pedophiles. Some of them might have undeniable evidence, in which case the do deserve it. But if there's a shred of uncertainty about one of them, I think it's cruel to submit them to the court of public opinion. People don't research shit, if a friend tells them that their current priest is a Pedo, they will believe it and someone's gonna get lynched. Remove the statute of limitation, put them on trial, fine It just feels like the grand jury is appealing to mob justice, and republics have fallen from this before. I'm not comfortable supporting it.

But you COMPLETELY skipped over the entire purpose of statues of limitations, to protect justice. Memory fades over time, it can even change. I'm sure most people will brush this off but do some serious research on memory and you'd be surprised how unreliable it can be. This is how we end up with wrongful convictions. Look up the case of Ronald Cotton, 60 minutes even dedicated a whole thing on how visual memory and how it lead to him spending 25 years in prison. These statues are in place to protect the accused. Because decades later, how accurately can you recall an event? Especially one that may have shaped over time (again, changes in how you remembered an event.

I guess this was already brought up, but I have to say: why does it matter WHEN the abuses happened, enough so that it has to be brought up on a formal apology? That is basically admitting that they internally posed themselves above law and used positions of power to conceal crimes until someone was like uh, guys, let's not do that, and then abandoned the victims to go by themselves in shame. Is it that hard to honestly take responsibility for systematic failures in the institution, even more, when you consider bishops and positions above as the practitioners of religious faith? Shouldn't they know humility and honesty better than a CEO or political party?

14: 25 This is so utterly insane How tf do you describe molestation or rape as horseplay? Harming a child in any way is the worst crime you could ever commit, IMO. Covering up for those who hurt children is just as disgusting. If you dont care that those you employ (or whatever tf you want to call it) are raping and abusing children, then what tf could you possibly care about? I mean, how can you rape or protect pedophiles and still claim to believe in God? Evidently they only became priests because it provided easy access to prey. I cant even begin to wrap my mind around this.
