Um no, the yellow vest movement stemmed from the fuel taxes but was an overall we've had enough from the french people regarding how France under Macron is looking towards helping the top 1% and leave its struggling majority in the dirt. They removed the fortune tax and are making education less available to people with less financial means and privatising universities, thus trying to remove one of France's greatest pride which is making higher education available for anyone (there are a lot of other things, cutting the education budget, the fuel tax supposedly being for the environment when Macron is actually upping our nuclear factories, just a lot of hypocrisy. The yellow vests had an honourable message, Paris being Paris, people with no clear conviction who just wanted to start problems just threw themselves in the middle as a lot of protests go in France, and the government jumps on the occasion to undermine the movement saying the violence is the product of people from the yellow vests. News were only covering this side of the protest so watchers could get scared of the scary poor people, when they were blatantly ignoring the movement's demands and only asking peaceful protesters why they were so violent. Macron didn't even solve anything, he just postponed that tax raise in hopes that people would just keel over, and thought slightly upping the salaries of minimum wage people would solve everything (thing he already planned to do too, and made it looked like it was a reaction to the movement when it wasn't, when the majority of the people touched by macron's god awful government are actually middle class people earning a little (about 100-200 euros) over the minimum wage and are taking the worst of the taxes because they are unable to benefit from any social aid, these people didn't get any raise, and all basically became minimum wage people as well. There are a lot of problems with Macron's government, he does not help his people, but his friends, and is basically a talking puppet for the rich and the prime minister who calls all the shots, so i don't care if this decision validates the violence, cause it's meaningless anyway, they are just planning to instate the tax in the summer of 2019.

While Tumblr has a reputation of being a place for crazy SJWs, before the new rules it was one of the freest major social media websites. Some big websites claim to be big havens for free speech and discussion, but for better or for worse, many of them ban a lot of things that are common on Tumblr. I think this could be the start of a slow death for Tumblr. It's not like porn was the only thing there, so stuff is still gonna keep going. But a lot of artists are looking for other websites. It has also ruined Tumblr's reputation of being an awesome free discussion and content space, and it has a lot of users concerned that the site might get stricter in the future. For instance, perfectly safe LGBT posts are getting flagged, not to mention the algorithm mistaking perfectly innocent things for porn. (one blog I follow, a woman's sketches of cetaceans got flagged. We were confused, then another user pointed out that the beluga looked pretty phallic and then that's all you can see, lol) In addition, consider the type of porn found on Tumblr. The guy in the video says that porn can be found lots of places online, but mainstream porn tends to largely cater to straight men. In addition, Tumblr allowed for a curated feed and niche interests. Users could find a blog run by someone who had similar tastes, and they'd get lots of content that made them happy. Anyway, final point is, getting rid of porn is taking away a big part of what made Tumblr unique. What's going to stop people from migrating to other sites now?

As someone who has used tumblr since 2010, I can say that while this is the grandest scale mass exodus we have seen, it will not kill the site. It's too diverse and yet niche at the same time. It's the only website that really offers an environment and content like it offers. I've seen this website do anything and everything and I swear to you nothing will kill it. As a person who runs a discord server based around a specific tumblr community, this has personally affected almost everyone on the server. The running gag is that tumblr doesn't know how to run a website. We regularly post to complain when we're followed by a porn bot or when we find CP in a tag. I can tell you that this ban has NOT changed that at all. It's been almost a month since the update now and if anything, the problem they were seeking to correct has gotten significantly worse. .and part of this is the users coming to expect this behavior from the staff. But we just allow it because it's the blue hellsite and it's run by competent staff and then cue the eye rolls. We just let them get away with treating their users poorly because we've come to expect it from them. This is just the next big tumblr scandal. It will never probably, unfortunately, NEVER die. I don't know anyone in my personal circle of friends who was not affected by this. That being said? We're a fairly small community. Who knows what that means for the rest of the site?

Here's my stance on it, if anyone cares. I found Tumblr when I was roughly 15, and so for the past 5 years (I am 20 years old now, I have been a heavy user of Tumblr, specifically for the adult content section. In these past 5 years, thanks to the loving, supportive, completely open community of their NSFW content, Ive learned more about myself than from almost anything else. Ive come to accept the kinds of things that I like and become interested in, and regardless of what I find that I like on there, there will always be some other person who feels the same way and is willing to support you. I cant tell you how many posts ive seen some some of the more. taboo. blogs on there about how the owner was having thoughts of suicide and depression and what not, and the absolute onslaught of positive comments to talk them down is unparalleled anywhere else. I've never felt more accepted, appreciated, and loved than from the other content creators on Tumblr. The execs have won. We have lost. It was one of the last safe havens for people who are into unique things, and now its gone. Im so sorry to anyone who is feeling the same way as me, to all the entrepreneurs and self promoters and artists who used that platform to make a living. well. so long. Its been great while it lasted.

The tumblr issue is very unfortunate. Especially to people like me where Tumblr is an escape from having to stress about what I post. Instagram and Facebook are formal places where I can't fully express myself but ever since 2010 I've been using tumblr as a form of self expression. Stories, pictures, gifs, Fandom posts, truly it's where I can put anything I'm thinking without (much) judgement. It used to be that there was an adult content filter that you could turn on and off if you wanted simply by flipping the switch. They've completely removed that now. And are flagging tons of users content. One of my posts was flagged because I hashtagged #MurderHouse and when I protested they said it was because of the word Murder. Excuse me. MURDER HOUSE IS A SEASON OF THE SHOW. But do you know what's still fully displayed? White suprimisists pages. Racism. Animal abuse. I took the bad with the good because tumblr was an open platform and you could say or post whatever you wanted but when you remove SELECT people's freedom to post things and not others? That's wrong. And I'm very vocal about that on my Twitter and tumblr.

My opinion about Macron is this, any leader who is willing to listen and debate and realize that if/when they are wrong about something OR that a tax isn't the right choice for the time being and are willing to change their stance proves that they are a powerful and intelligent leader. When I was in the military one thing that always stuck out from those appointed over me was this to be a good leader, one must first be a good follower. I feel like this can be said about Macron, he realized that his people weren't happy about something he was going to do, so he followed them and will become more loved as a leader. This is something we've missed in this country for far too long, even in the Obama era, the people were still the victims of an ever-growing/overreaching government attempting to invade or take over every aspect of our lives. Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth. - Abraham Lincoln

Tumblr execs were selfish in this decision. They simply wanted it back on the app store to generate more traffic and users. Plain and simple, this is censorship and an infringement on our freedom of speech and expression. There is nothing wrong with nudity or porn blogs, and the people that are sensitive to that type of content can simply block those users or have their safe mode feature turned on. What Tumblr shouldve focused on instead was getting rid of the pedophiliac content, the hate blogs that support racism, homophobia, xenophobia, etc, the violent/gory stuff, the content glorifying any kind of abuse or self harm, all that. Female presenting nipples? Smh. Trust me, as someone whos used tumblr since 2010, Ive seen a lot worse on there than porn and naked people.

Man, the tumblr purge is so disappointing. I always enjoyed being able to go on tumblr and see all and any type of content. An area for entertainment (including adult, education, and laughs. I believe this will be the end for many users as the versatility of the site was what drew us in and kept us there. It felt like the last place that I could truly decide what I wanted to see and what rabbit hole I wanted to go down IN ONE PLACE. Now this lovely site is being silenced and put through a filter aswell. Now for me, my disappointment is geared towards the purge of adult content. And the general feel of having another place where instead of debate and conversation, its just being erased. Once again I cant say just how disappointed I am about this decision.

Im really bummed over the tumblr situation and I know others are just downright pissed about it. Tumblr was a good space where anyone could post any content that was legal while still allowing people to turn off the nsfw content. However, tumblr staff is completely negligent: countless people where pestering the staff for YEARS over neo nazis, porn bots, and pedophila to no avail. It was like the staff couldnt give two shits what went on with the site only until AFTER they got into trouble over it. Now theyre purging practically everyone and the algorithm theyre using is a complete joke. I hope that site dies. The guys running it dont deserve to have it up as its the equivalent of an abused neglected child of a site.
