James Cameron: The Hollywood\'s Best Director? - Full Biography (Titanic, Avatar, Terminator) Hey. I believe that Cameron had the idea of the -liquid metal- Terminator from the start. His original idea I believe was for Henriksen to play a Terminator infiltration unit that was made of -liquid metal- and Arnold to be the good guy from the Resistence - Sarahs protector. Then on one side Arnold convinced Cameron that he wanted to play the Terminator robot, while on the other side the idea of liquid metal Terminator was a bit ahead of its time in 1983 so they decided not to use it. Camerons idea for Henriksen to play the Terminator infiltration unit was based on his perception that this kind of robot would have to be slick and should not have stood out in public but instead blending in. He thought Arnold was to muscular and would stand out too much. In a way T2 was actually closer to his original vision, but I have to say Im one of the people who prefer the original Terminator by far. Yeah the cinematic production of T2 is levels above, but I just loved the chemistry and the acting of T1. Its my alltime favorite Cameron and Arnold movie.\r\n

I enjoyed this video but I must question your knowledge of filmmaking, or the scope of your research. When you say -the camera ran out of tape-, surely you must realize that motion picture cameras don't use tape. You could argue that some cameras during the very early days of digital cinema did shoot on digital tape but even that was very rare. Movies, until very recently, have always been shot on film, and film is a photo-chemical medium. Even now, some filmmakers insist on shooting on film. Quentin Tarantino comes to mind, but there are others. Even today's digital cinema cameras (Arri Alexa, Red) do not shoot to tape. They record to solid state media and hard drives. I know this is a minor technical detail but when I encounter such glaring mistakes I must then question what else I can't trust in the video. As someone with fifty years in the movie business and who has met James Cameron, accuracy is very important to me. Regardless of this error I respect and appreciate your hard work on this video.

People like to say James Cameron was a tyrant on set and often point to the punishment everyone went through on The Abyss but here is why I dont believe that counts and it was not tyrant behaviour - he subjected himself to everything he asked of the crew and more - he never asked them to do something he wasnt willing to do himself and was there suffering with them every step of the way to get it perfect.
The dude asked a LOT of people, sure, but he lead by example and put his money where his mouth was in never asking for stuff he wasnt willing to do personally.
The dude is to directing what Tom Cruise is to acting - just unrelenting and a level of dedication thats almost unheard of and unfathomable.

Video says that Titanic's original approved budget was 200 million. This is incorrect, original budget was 110 million, it went way over budget, Cameron forfeited his salary (which wasn't of much help to the amount they actually needed to complete the film. Ended up being 200 million afterwards after lots of stress, delays, drama involving the studio. Originally it was going to be only a Fox production, but they had to split some of the costs with Paramount (which I believe was not originally involved.

False. He always doing make believe & fantasy with special effects stuff which I have no use for. The true genius filmmakers are doing true documentary filmmaking which change the world. Example -The Pharmacist- where a small town pharmacist brings down big Pharma. All true not fake made up sci-fi crap. Cameron just makes pretty, expensive, actors, high dollar cameras movies. The greatest movies can be made with a iPhone, real life, real people not actors & change the world

Sorry, I'll stick to Steven and George. I have tried to watch TITANIC twice. I love the fly around of the ship at the beginning, but immediately became bored when the story starts. I avoid romances, they are such lies. Fan of the first 2 TERMINATORs, but not after. Liked the original AVATAR. Not any of the others. Have changed, somewhat, my outlook on Cameron since the catastrophe of the Titan submersible. He is very knowledgeable on the submersible field.

Its surprising to look at his Filmography and realise how small it actually is. Reminds me of another director, Stanley Kubrick. However, Cameron hasn't branched into as many genres as Kubrick did but the work he has done has been mould breaking and fantastic. the only things I wish for Cameron in terms of future film making is to get this avatar 4 film epic out of his system so we can see something that isn't avatar from him before his career is over

He's less then average as a director. -
He has fun ideas, But he is not not a good director at all. -
He's a great businessman. -
His lightning of scenes are boring and dull and his framing nothing special at all. and looks more like a soap opera. -
He can not let his actors act they are always cringe. -
Never made a film without special effects. -
And his movies has always bad and cheesy dialog.

Wow, you'd think that Cameron would want to compensate the guy who came up with the story for Titanic, me! Why is theft of my intellectual property, my imagination, so necessary? Well, I gave him/them Avatar's story on the same day, both were good stories. And isn't it a shame that I was shut out of working on Avatars 234567? I've worked on most of the Star Wars films and never charged them a nickel.

IMO, Cameron never stopped being a truck driver. He's always been better working with machines than people.
Rest assured if several cast and/or crew members had actually drowned on the set of _The Abyss_ in an accident that would've put the Twilight Zone movie disaster to shame, Cameron's career would have taken a VERY different trajectory.

I CANNOT AGREE more with James Cameron vision meatless society. We, as a specie, is already a modern marvel surpassing nature natural instincts. We should at least leave behind the very things that is primitive to us.
We can make meat without the animal is an awesome scientific achievement. I do hope we transition completely in my life time.

He sounds like a genius, but a total prick to work with. Probably got it from his father who was hard on him as a kid. To be honest, to get the best results you need to let a genius work and follow their orders so you can appreciate why they get frustrated by lesser intelligent people.

His name is James, James Cameron-
The bravest pioneer-
No budget too steep, no sea too deep-
Who's that? -
It's him, James Cameron-
James, James Cameron explorer of the sea-
With a dying thirst to be the first-
Could it be? Yeah that's him! -
James Cameron

That was an interesting tidbit about Cameron refusing to recite the Lord-s Prayer as a kid. I felt the same when I was young! I even rewrote the prayer so I could recite to drown out the creepiness of everyone else around me who were speaking it.
reply

Well James Cameron is just like me, I did the same as a kid, in math class I was drawing and dreaming at strange things. Now days I can do anything I wish, build, draw, sculpt, play with electronics etc. Your mind has no limit.

Terminator 2 might be the best movie of all times! and robert patrick as T1000 probabely the greatest villain of all time! it's a shame that he didnt get an oscar for this role!
reply

Yes thanx for nothing James. Avatar and hurt locker on the same night at the collective. One for you and one for your wife and nothing for me again. Hollywood is full of TRUMPS.

Great work! As an already avid James Cameron fan, I learned so much from this video.
Thank you for all the hard work, research, and editing that went into this.

The story of a trucker becoming THE most rewarded filmmaker of all time with no formal education in the art (not 'one of'; THE most) should be an inspiration to us all.
reply

James is the king of film making. And failed marriages lol. Nobody-s perfect. He is one of, if not the GOAT film makers. Terminator / T2 alone are goated

Just so you know, Courtenay (in BC) is pronounced -Courtney. - It's an easy mistake to make, and one I made as well until my in-laws moved there.

Was surprised to know how genius Cameron is after OceanGate submersible imploded and wanted to know more about him---rip to all gone souls

There wouldn't be an alien franchise without the artist H. R Giger, who created the alien & not one mention. get your facts right

That-s how films should be made. Great practical effects. The CGI monsters would be remote robotic models with LED-s now a days.

I like eating meat. So do not tell me what i must eat to make you feel good. Tasted vegetarian and vegan food and its gross.

James Cameron actually plays Lewis Dodgson in my Jurassic Park Extinction film that I-ve been working on for 10 years now
reply

The Na-vi and Avatar-s faces could-ve been made using silicone masks. The costumes should-ve been real. James cheated.

If you pronounce Jacques as it's spelled. You're obviously under 40.
Maybe you should create a Bio for him first.

This video makes me appreciate James Cameron more. I like how Avatar was inspired by a dream James Cameron-s mom had
reply

Titanic projects shouldn-t be done without James, Bob or Cunard involved or else fans will be disappointed.
