I came here because I am studying lock-out/ tag-out for my plumbing course.
Energy-isolating devices do not include on/off switches and control valves at the machine. These can easily be turned back on, and often do nothing to remove energy from the equipment. In many cases on/off switches are low voltage switches controlling higher voltage relays and solenoids within the machine. Turning these off means that there's still high levels of available energy within the equipment.
I tried to get a better idea of a solenoid is, and how it applies to this context.

Hi there. I am having an issue with my 1/2 12v solenoid valves (norally closed) getting stuck open after a couple of rapid cycles. I can't figure out why this is happening or what to do about it. Does anybody have experience with this and can give me some tips? Could it be that I have bought cheap and inferior quality solenoids? Is it a 12v issue that would not happen with 220v?

About the current flow from + to - or vice versa:
The fact is, electrons travel from the - to the +. BUT because they have a negative charge, mathematically speaking, the charge at the + gets smaller due to the addition of negatively charged electrons, and it gets increased at the - due to negatively charged electrons leaving. At least that's how I explain it.

Why doesn't the solenoid create a short circuit when the wire is wrapped around itself? Wouldn't this create a shorter path for electron flow by just going straight through the touching wires and thus rendering the coils useless? Why doesn't there need to be insulation between the coils in order to ensure electron flows properly through the solenoid?

So if you make a coil and insert a plastic rodd which has a metal extention (that is shorter than the coil in length) and you put a current on the coil, you would feel a force when you try to pull, as well as push, the plastic rodd? And the force you feel increases if you increase current?

Can some one explain to my why old starter motors have 2 wire inside their starter selenoid?
They say hold in wire and pull in wire.
What does that mean?
I tought you need only 1 wire to pull ore push a peace of metal what functiin has that other wire?
What is it used for?

What I don't understand is how the wound copper wire doesn't just act as one thick copper cilinder. Is the enamel coating on the copper wire an insulator? He says to sand it off the ends to get a better connection, implying that there's some conductivity with enamel intact.

Good day. My air tyfon is not working correctly. It can start, but it did not stop by itself. Solenoid valve is opened but could not to close. Tyfon only stop when closed air inlet valve manually. May be you now what can be the reason?

Just a heads up to those watching: changing the direction in which you wrap the wire will not strengthen your solenoid. The resulting magnetic fields will cancel each other out and DECREASE your final magnetic field

My favorite part was the very informative section of this video when he cut the solenoid valve in half and how he said he's going to make a first cut and then spinning around and make a second cut.

When using the hand grip rule to determine the polarity of solenoid, does that mean the positive is always south, and the negative is always north?

When you apply the right hand grip rule, you don't mention the winding direction (like a normal screw or a special left step one) which is confusing. It would change the poles; anyway great video.

I made the experiment of an electromagnet by winding wire around a bolt then attached with 1. 5V battery
but it does make one pole magnet
I mean why I don't get S N poles

If I used an AC solenoid valve would it mean that it would move the plunger up and down regularly because of the positive and the negative cycle of the AC voltage.
