Completely off topic - just a question I've had a long time, & didn't find topic. My question is about attenuators, or light dimmers. When you use a household light dimmer in you home to set mood, at night, let's say, and you dim you light to a faint glow - I know the light bulb itself [filament] is not burning energy, & you're not paying for electricity like if that bulb were straight-on at full brightness. My question is about that dimmer, & it's process. Am I still using the same amount of electricity - with the dimmed output process still using the same amount of juice as the dimmer's resistance deflects energy from the bulb? Does the dimmer chock the electric output, block it, or consume it? Thanks - Brad

Working on a system at the moment. 2 chillers on primary side linked to secondary system through a de-coupler. Max flow on primary chillers in 250 m3/h in total. On the secondary side there are variable speed pumps.
I need to ensure a max flow of 240m3/h on secondary side. Just wondering should i replace the 200mm DRV with a similar size PICV To ensure I don't pull no more than 240 m3/h.

Can a standard 2 port control valve be installed downstream of a PICV (no actuator on the PICV? How does the modulating control of the 2 port control valve affect the operation of the PICV. Do they work against each other i. e when the 2 port control valve closes, does the PICV compensate to keep the flow constant?

Excellent animations to show the workings. In the process of designing a system with a heat exchanger, I had planned to use a proportional valve to control the fluid flow. Great to find out now that this is a better valve selection! Thanks again for the awesome video. Will be ordering one of these on Monday.

Dear The Engineering Mindsets at 5: 42 you've said pressure increases then flow rate increases then velocity increases. Isn't pressure and velocity inversely proportional? . Then how come pressure and velocity increases at same time. Kindly clear my doubt and please tell me I'm right or wrong.

You said that PICVs don't work when combined with TRVs in two-pipe heating systems, but what about a TRV which is also a PICV? Danfoss (Dynamic Valve) and IMI Heimeier (Eclipse) both have such valves, are they suitable for two-pipe heating systems?

Hi, Very nice video.
Can you please let me know how it will avoid overflow in part load operation when PICV is used in constant speed pump.
Pls explain as I didn't get that point.

Great job Paul keep it up, please make a vedio on btu meter which is use to generate the bill, include the whole formula to get kwh or mwh, also show it's installation and input parameters

this also requires that the spring stiffness to remain constant or a predictable value, but springs wear over time i feel it will loose its stiffness, so how long do these things last?

Please tell about working principle of BALANCING VALVE & DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE CONTROLLERS (Individuals )BV+DPC
Why should follow PIBCV installed return pipe?

Besides being a single valve body, do these function differently than using a modulating control valve in combination with an automatic flow control valve?

Very nice video
What if downstream pressure keeps changing? Still this valve will give constant flow?
If not, which valve used for that?

I don't have a need to use picvs but I really enjoy the breakdown on how things work and why. very informative mate. ty so much

I love your videos. I actually use them to teach part of my Plumbing class hydraulic flow. Thank you for making my life easier.

We started swapping out all our delta style valves to these Danfoss valves. Thanks for the explanation.

Excellent. But working and internal construction is almost same as PCV. Good job. Please keep us educating.
