10 Engineering projects Tackling Ocean Pollution #TeamSeas
video description
Where did such amounts of waste come from?
Research shows that Asia and Africa produce the most of this rubbish.
How does this garbage get into the oceans?
Well, subsequent studies show that garbage ends up in the ocean by rivers. The top 10 rivers in the world are almost entirely a source of littering the oceans. Neither of these rivers are in Europe.
And who will clean up this mess of people from Africa and Asia?
It looks like the whites will do it, and they will do it at their own expense. And where will this picked up garbage end up?
Should not developed countries influence the countries littering the oceans with political and economic means to stop this harmful practice? Shouldn't these countries be forced to separate their rubbish and recycle, or possibly charge them with cleaning costs?
Remember that not all rubbish floats and it is easier to keep it near the delta - the mouths of these rivers than to fish it out in the open ocean.

I had a simple idea to reduce waste and fuel usage, targetting PET bottles in the soft drink business.
Take the most drinked soft beverage about, coca-cola.
The closest bottling plant to me is 140 km away, so the plan is to bring the drink closer to consumers, thus reducing logistical needs.
For that, The Coca-Cola Company already developed a key tech for this to work: reusable bottles, which are meant to be returned to the bottling plant and refilled.
So just cut the transport and let local stores fill bottles themselves with soda fountain tech, while the company concerns itself with distributing syrup.
Though that is very uninteresting from a business standpoint. Would have to develop a bottle washing, filling and crimping machine. Relativelly easy, but expensive to do consudering the scale it would have to serve.
Also, Coke is anal about their IP. They wouldn't want to scatter their precious syrup around for anyone to copy. Thoughthe recipe has been reproduced by amateurs already.

I see #teamseas as another publicity stunt. About 8 million metric tones (17 billion lbs) are dumped into the ocean annually. I think it would be better to invest those 30 million into the technology that could be automated rather than reaching specific small goal. If you want less plastic jn the ocean just stop eating fish as most of that plastic are fishnets.

some of those projects look ridiculously over engineered to the point where they might do more harm then good by wasting money on clean up projects.
Considering around 80% of all ocean plastic comes from just asia alone. Using the money it takes to build a very complicated autonomous robot would be better spent forcing those people to use a trash can.

One simple solution, don't let big companies do whatever they want. They don't care about the garbage. Collecting garbage and recycling is also waste of money, energy and other sources.
This type of things will never solve the problem. We shouldn't let them create garbage and that's it.

What is Team Seas going to do about the 1. 2 million tons of contaminated Fukushima nuclear waste water scheduled to be released into the Pacific Ocean starting in the Spring of 2022? The oceans of the world will soon be ruined beyond repair.

FB (Meta) groups etc.
You can even Livestream the conveyor belt and hopper.

Every new innovative technology about stopping climate change is a bllshit, sadly we can only save the earth if we stop consumism, you know, vote with your wallet to make factories less poluting

I just donated 5$, I don't have much money on my card right now; (
But BTW I'm at home and making a robot that collects all trash NO ARDUINO. JUST IC AND SENSOR! #teamseas

Notice how the clear bot is said to collect 250 kilograms in one mission? That is 551. 2 lbs, doesn't look like it could carry more than 5 lbs.

cities have daily barges of trash that go dump huge masses of trash in the ocean so you're just pissing in the wind

This is all well and good but pointless if we dont stop the main polluting countries from dumping their trash in the oceans.

Plastic bottles should never make their way to the ocean. A high enough redemption value would ensure it all gets recycled.

But honestly I don't think these methods are that efficient compared to the catastrophe of pollution.
