One thing I really struggled with while learning electronics is resistors. I learnt Ohm's law V=IR and then learnt that resistors decrease current and voltage. This didn't make sense until I realised that Ohm's law assumes resistance is fixed and we only vary the voltage and current. Resistors are best thought about as using up the energy of electrons. This energy is the electric potential energy which is used to drive the electrons through the circuit. Electrons waste this energy to navigating through the resistor colliding with its molecules causing their vibration heating them up or exciting their electrons momentarily causing them to release the energy in the form of photons. This decreases voltage which is the difference in electric potential. It also decreases current because voltage is what drives passage of current.

Great video. I need help with a issue on my repair. I have a 24V DC power supply circuit that uses a 1 ohm 2 watts resistor, the resistor kept burning after replacement, the power comes from a transformer. I what should I look for? Could the transformer be bad? There 4 diodes that being used as rectifier right before the 1 ohm resistor. Could they be bad? Which allows too much current to rush through, correct?

me compre una luz led para una motocicleta e intente encenderlo pero con una energia mayor por lo que vi que se quemo la pobre luz led, pero tambien vi que esas tiras se pueden cortar a cualquier distancia ya que traen algo como conexion tierra, mi pregunta es si lo corto la tira de led puede volver a funcionar? o ya se quemaron toda la tira de luces led, agradeceria mucho si alguien me saca de esa duda.

I love how u zoom in on each component, plus showing the designs are great and shows different ways to get an idea of everything. I don't have any peices yet but I'm using a simulator so trying to get used to the symbols is not easy but it'll all pay off eventually and I'll be more familiar when I get all the components

MOVs were described as being somewhat like schottky diodes. They aren't. They are somewhat like (bidirectional) zener diodes. They have a wearout mechanism that makes them unsuitable for some applications. Their high capacitance makes them unsuitable in other circuits.

I can understand this using the electron flow model, but not as electricity actually works through electro magnetic fields. How does the resistor reduce voltage and current when the electro magnetic field can induce a current in the conductors beyond the resistor?

On markings on surface mount resistors:
Generally any resistor smaller than 0603 will not have any markings. Several manufactures quit marking any ordinary types of SM resistors several years ago. (SM ceramic caps have mostly 'never had any markings)

Could it be that the electromagnetic field created by completing the circuit with only a 9vdc battery and an LED is so strong that it super heats the thin wire inside the LED rather than too many electrons being pushed through such a small space?

Thanks a million. can I add a 2ohm to subwoofer. my application is to use a single 2ohm subwoofer connected to a 1ohm stable amp. just wana bring the load on amp to play at 1ohm. any help would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks. awesome video

Do you have any tips for reading a resistor the right way around? sometimes I'm left guessing which end is which so I have to hope that the tolerance is one of the colours that nothing else is haha
