i know you probably wouldn't read this but, there was a myth by our ancestor, it says that thousands of years ago java and sumatra island were connected. and there happened a volcano eruption that separates the two. and that volcano was krakatau.
also back then our ancestor says that krakatau used to be a giant mountain, but the explosion was so big and devastating, that it actually destroys itself and its surroundings.
(this was one of the story my grandma used to tell me before i go to sleep, and my grandma also hear this story from her grandma, and my grandma's grandma would also hear this story from her grandma and so on)

really- this wealthy person digs down underground to place a safety bunker on an island that is a whole volcano? Mt St Helens pops into my mind where the whole side of that mtn of land collapsed. underground on an island that is a volcano a picture pops into my mind like 1883 mt Krakatowa. Yea once underground where volcanic tubes move magna like everwhere underground. all her metal doors will melt her into lockdown and her empty chamber will become a new area for magma to collect. Poetic Justice?

While working in Jakarta in 1998 a group of us charted a boat out to the site. It was amazing to be there although in hindsight probably not the safest thing to do. About 20 minutes after we left to return to Java there was a significant expulsion of ash, and I was glad we weren't closer. After seeing the movie -Krakatoa East of Java- as a kid it was cool to be there, and I laughed when the compass was right on -W- as we boated out to it.

Krakatoa was NOT a volcano but an Island. In fact, on the island there were 3 volcanoes: Rakata, Danan and Perboewatan that in 1883 erupted and finally blew up Krakatoa Island. Krakatoa was also the name of the archipelago where the missing island of the same name was located. The current volcano Anak Krakatau (Not Krakatoa) has arisen where the missing island of Krakatoa was located.

That 180dB alone is enough to kill a lot of people and make a lot of people have ear damage or be deaf alone. I doubt anything near the volcano survived. Anything 150dB and above is already enough to cause ur ears to rupture and take damage. No way anyone survived that close unless they were coincidentally underwater or they-re just god

My great grand mom witnessed the tsunami. many peoples died even she lifes in palabuhan ratu port. and yes she dont have a good hearing when i meet her but i dunno if its because krakatau or age. but again she have a full good teeths and memories untill she is death at 90++ yo

Krakatoa is no longer the loudest sound ever heard. The catastrophic eruption of Hunga Tonga in January of 2022 is the loudest sound ever heard by mankind. Hunga Tonga was supposedly heard and caught on video in Lexington, Kentucky over 6000 miles away!

Hiked solo to the top of Krakatoa back in 2005. Near the summit my shoes were starting to melt. I was going to paraglide off the top but it would have damaged my wing. Hair on the back of my neck is rising just thinking about the dumb risk.

If memory serves, the eruption of Kracatoa was the first time rapid news went worldwide via the telegraph, long before radio or TV existed to report this kind of thing. I think that's why Kracatoa is more famous than Tambora.

I'll have to disagree with the loudest sound claim, I'm pretty sure that title could be taken by my wife the night that I came home from the nudie bar being drunk, smelling like perfume and covered with glitter.

That's nothing, when I was 9 I farted in one of those McDonalds play places, it was right next to the slide so it echoed into the entire restaurant like a megaphone. Definitely louder.
