Fun facts: Did you know that among all countries not considered part of the -third world-, South Africa has the highest rate of murder, kidnapping, and rape, with the exception of the socialist paradise of Venezuela? Did you know that it is more likely for a farmer with land in South Africa, black, white, or other, to die from violence than a resident of the notorious South Side of Chicago? Did you know that the government of South Africa is so corrupt that approximately 64% of annual wealth from minerals and other natural resources is not reinvested in the country, but instead sent abroad to banks in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands and the like? Did you know that 57% of foreign aid sent by wealthy nations to assist the poor in South Africa is stolen by corrupt government officials and sold on the black market for their own profit? Did you know that while in 1980, South Africa was completely self-sufficient in food, and in fact exported millions of tons of grain and other farm products primarily to other nations in the region, as of last year, South Africa, having expropriated almost half of its formerly family-owned farmland for redistribution, is actually now a net importer of food? If it weren't for the tiny percentage of mineral wealth parceled out to miners and refiners in the form of subsistence wages, the insurance and financial sector of Johannesburg, and what's left of the stout, resilient Boer and other native farmers who still remain, in spite of constant violence, threats, and government oppression, South Africa would be a completely failed state. The -rainbow- of South Africa is actually a tornado of constant fear and violence.

This video promotes the falsehood that the Boers were -Dutch settlers- when in point of fact the Boers have nothing to do with the Dutch settlers & are in fact an indigenous African people ( author James Morris noted this in print ) who are of German / Frisian / French Huguenot & Belgian descent with smaller but significant roots of Indian / Malay / Khoisan & Yoruba origin. The narrative that this video promotes plays into the narrative of the Colonial powers that tried to rob & obscure the Boers' true identity & ethnic origin. The fact of the matter is that the Boers have had to struggle against the Dutch settlers: particularly the Cape Dutch settlers who often acted as enforcers of the Colonial Powers. Calling the Boers -Dutch settlers- is about as bad & incorrect as calling the African Americans -British settlers-! Just because the Dutch forced the ancestors of the Boers to the Cape DOES NOT MAKE the Boer people -Dutch settlers-! The ancestors of the Boers did not settle in Southern Africa. they were settled in Southern Africa by the Dutch East India Company & the Dutch Colonial Power.

The Anglo Boer War
What they dont tell you is that the British brought fighters from all their colonies to come and fight against the Boers, Dutch farmers. I am currently in New Zealand and at the War Museum here, they describe the Boers as -savages- and uncultured, and that they, the British need to protect the land against these terrible people. So Kiwis and Maori warriors went to fight against the Boers. The real reason for the war was that the British wanted their greedy hands on the natural resources, the gold and diamonds.
And. how did the British win? They went to the farms and captured the wives and children and put them in concentration camps, tent camps, with no facilities, where many died of starvation! And many diseases broke out. The British also went and burned the Boers farms /crops. so they wouldnt have provisions.

I'm from South Africa and have been living in Berlin Germany for about 9 years now and I'm so sad to see a beautiful country like South Africa being completely destroyed by the current government. South Africa went from a first world nation to a third world country in less than 10 years. Between 1995-2005 things were still normal but then Zuma started with his influence in the country a man that from his own words admitted that he was uneducated to govern a country. Till this day the people of South Africa can't seem to vote on a proper leader and rather vote for skin colour. South Africa is doomed. That reason alone is why people rather say today leave Africa to the Africans.

Well done except for a few minor points not worth mentioning except that Dollar Brand now known as Abdullah Ebrahim is the country's major composer. But then again we as Brown People are accustomed to being Invisible. Under Apartheid we were to Black to pass for White. Now we are considered to White to pass for Black. But then again we are mixed with Hottentots and Bushman and not with Buntus and that held against us. The only one that talks the truth about our history is Lauren's van der Post if you are at all interested in the Truth.

Three things to note: 1. The British only invaded the Boer republics for the second time (after having lost the first Anglo-Boer war) when gold was discovered. in the north (the Transvaal and Orange Free States. 2. The British victors placed Afrikaner women and children in different concentration camps than their black compatriots, hence the the origin of separation and the roots of apartheid. 3. The -apartheid- government of the 1950' copied the racist signs n seats and buses from the American southern states.

Totally love South Africa it will always be my home, but sadly corruption, poverty, crime, and miss management of government services makes me sad and sick and how the tables have turned to a point where it is unsustainable-
National electrical grid Eskom the people or cannot supply stable, power to factories, plants and corporations, which internal hurts businesses bottom line.
Highly rich country in minerals, only to have them being exploited by the west and east Asia.

Trevor Noah comes to mind as a famous South African too. As for music, and again this is a bit of a generational thing, the hit pop song made famous by The Tokens - The Lion Sleeps Tonight - was originally written in the Zulu language, I believe, by a fellow named Solomon Linda in the late 1930s. And it was originally recorded in South Africa decades before it was picked up and rendered in English by the Tokens. Odd name for that group, now that I think about it -

Speaking of which, you left out the conservations of many people and what they are fighting for, what inspire the Disney company, films, entertainment, nature programs, etc. Yeah I know, Africa a big place so many things left unexplored and unexplained like celebrities and such that also caught the MCU (again entertainment. So, I'm suggesting how about a part 2? It isn't complete without mentioning Dr. Louis Leakey and his 3 chimps he calls his female explorers.

I'm South African and you warmed my heart with the introduction. I live and work abroad and haven't been home in over 3 years, and will be visiting later this year. I cannot wait. Our country has had many problems and still does, but one thing about South Africans - SAFFAS - is that we are forever optimists - always looking forward and hoping for a better future for our beautiful land. Oh, and loved the intro music too!

Man I bet many people also didnt know Elon Musk is from South Africa. It looks like a wonderful place to explore natural wonders however it might be best to stay out of the cities, I remember in a top gear interview a popular actor filming there recounted how he ended up held at gunpoint under a bridge with a bag over his head while stuck in traffic.

While it is true that affirmative action policies are enacted which seek to redress the discrimination of the Black, Coloured and Indian population at the expense of whites people. White people are still by far the wealthiest racial group occupying top positions in the country-s top companies, occupy the most land and have the most wealth.

At 7: 03 I would like to add some more detail to that statement.
The English didn't actually defeat the Boer republics, a peace treaty was signed which is called the Treaty of Vereeniging. This led to the creation of the Union of South Africa.

Very impressive. One correction the alleged slaves the VOC brought were mainly political dissidents from Java, Celebes and Sumatra. Meaning natives that were creating trouble (ie. revolts) against the VOC and local Sultans.

Apartheid isn't even a big issue during that time. it was heavily politicized now by the left western media.
Let's be real if South Africa weren't colonized by the Europeans our country wouldn't exist.

So funny how when the whites were doing the oppressing it was terrible and had to be stopped. But when the blacks do the oppressing and lead to white abandoning SA, it is fine and nobody says a thing about it.

South Africa is proof positive that you can still starve while walking on a ground inundated with gold and diamonds. Poverty is not a place but is in fact the people that inhabit it.
