Enough to fund a small fleet of sailing ships armed with cannons. I then observe, careful not to interfere with the time lines, as Caesar leads 18 legions (with an appropriate number of allied troops) directly west from the rock of Gibraltar, to both discover the Americas (or should I say 'The Caesericas') and to conquer a vast swathe of land. Once a permanent settlement is established and a Roman governor installed to oversee the colony, I can then go back home, comfortable in the knowledge that everything happened the way it was supposed to.

The cool thing is that I think HBO's Rome actually refers to the two being of the same rank and competing for Primus Pilus. in a scene after Pullo rages out and kills one of Vorenus' slaves he mopes to Vorenus about how he's always had it better than Pullo, giving an example of how he never demoted YOU. so it sounds to me like the show was hinting to the two having been of a similar rank, but that Vorenus later got the upper hand and demoted Pullo, eventually leading to him being a common legionary. Maybe that's why he's turned to drinking and is borderline suicidal at Alesia. he'd been aiming for a higher spot in the legion but not only hadn't got it, but had also been demoted right back to the bottom rung of the ladder.

For me a lifelong amateur historian. The HBO series Rome went far for me in humanizing the Roman legionnaires. Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson were excellent in their roles as Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo. For at least seven centuries. People inside and outside the Empire lived in blind fear of the Roman legions. HBO's Rome displayed that fear perfectly to me though McKidd and Stevenson acting. Any doubts about that. Both actors are practically household names i. e. McKidd ( Grey's Anatomy, Stevenson (MCU Thor series.

Glad to hear my two fav characters existed! I recently bought the show so I could retire the VCR cassette recordings! And every time we see Stevenson jumping bad in other movies, we call it going Pullo

Sounds like both Pullo and Vorenus represented the best qualities of Roman citizen soldiers. Brave and patriotic, especially Pullo by switching sides showed that he respected and believed in the Republican government over a dictator regardless if he was misguided or not.

I think I find it both admirable and honourable that a soldier would risk both life and limb to save his rival rather than let him die on the battlefield. I'd like to think the two became good friends after this incident or at the very least respected one another greatly.

I thought it ws the IX Legion that Quintus Cicero commanded beseiged by the Nervii, and that was why Caesar ws so distraught that they and his beloved and honored X Legion became mutinous during the civil war. I will have to go back and look at the history of the XI.

So the real Pullo was really a republic loyalist. In the show, he only cared about his legion and Caesar; whilst Vorenus hated what they were doing as he saw it as betraying Rome.

Interesting that Pullo joined with Pompey. That makes me think the real Pullo was more patriotic than the fictional character. I always enjoyed his cynical perspective

I don't think this version of history is correct. I will double check Cesears book, but I think Vorenus lived 100 years before Pullo. during Roman republic times.
