Lords of the Mountains: The Foundation of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia Levon: I have been collecting Cilician Silver and bronze coins, many of them I acquired from reputable sellers on ebay which I have authenticated. Its fascinating to hold a coin that was used by the people of the last Armenian kingdom. One of my most interesting coins on an overstrike coin which was part of the annual payment of hundreds of thousands of silver coins paid to the Mamluks after losing a war. Its an Armenian coin that was heated and overstruck with Arabic writing because it was easier and cheaper then melting and making new blanks. If this coin could talk the stories it would tell, I can imagine it on a horse and carriage making its way south to the Mamluk Arabs to pay their tribute.

didn't know that armenia still existed as a nation until i looked it up in the map some while ago, i always thought that the armenians were destroyed by the ottomans once and for all, especially after the genocide of the 20th century. i should read more to find out how the medieval aremenian kingdom has transitioned to give the modern armenian state.

Armenia could not become a great kingdom becouse they never wrote their history, it was always persians or greecs told about them, much of their history is found in, Greece, persian, or Turk history.
Maybe they were too peacefull or not bold enough to take what's theirs. The name armaorarm itself means calm both in persian and greece languages.

Thanks for exploring Armenian history which is thousands of years old Armenia appears on the oldest clay tablet map of the world the Babylonian map of the world.
PS a lot of Byzantine rulers and people of influence in the Eastern Roman Empire were Armenian by birth.

American historians Justin and Carolyn McCarthy:
The modern territory of Armenia belongs not to Armenians, but to Azerbaijanis. This is the reason that most of the geographical names in the territory of Armenia belong to Azerbaijanis.

I remember from time ago I saw maps showing La Pequena Armenia (the Little Armenia in Spanish) but never imagined the rich history behind the Cilician-Armenian Kingdom. Thanks for sharing!

There are some peoples who have had a hard time through the ages. Poland and Armenia are two of them. I wish future peace and prosperity to them for the future. Theyve been through so much.

My grandfather, born in that region, told me about that wonderful kingdom, and even sang very old songs that are still preserved, talking about the glory of those Christian Realms

Wonderful video. Only the name spelling is not accurate. Gagik ( the last g should pronounce same way as first G not ji, Cilicia ( from Latin C in English is K sound - Kilikia.

And, the more one digs into the un-falsified ancient history of the Armenians, the more they'll understand who the 'Hittites' were & what is meant by 'Lords of the Mountains'.

Its my opinion the Armenian people are the toughest on Earth. I tip my hat to Armenia and its people for still being a viable nation. Stay strong!

Be peaceful. Nobody today was involved in the genocide. Even if the Turkish government ignores it, don't hold it against the Turkish people.
reply

It was not called Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, but the former Armenian Princedom of Cilicia became Kingdom of (small) Armenia outright.
reply

Great video, thank you from Armenia, only the right way to pronounce Gagik, is to pronounce the second g the same way as the first.
