I'm Frisian and i am currently watching the show Vikings (which is mostly and sadly not historically correct by the way. So a week or so ago i saw this character Ubbe being introduced into the series. I found it very strange that this guy's name was Ubbe, as that really is a (somewhat old and not really used today anymore) Frisian name. Then i found out that this guy was probably (half) Frisian. Wouldn't have expected that. Interesting nice video by the way.

The music really sucks. It is loud, unfocused, not in sync with the narration and basically just an annoyance. I know you make these videos mostly by yourself, but it is time to get someone to help with sound editing. The background music should add to the narrative, but yours just comes across like a construction site next to the library.

i am puzzled as to why the Vikings/Danes didn't expand south into Germany and the Netherlands rather than sailing to England, Ireland and other places? why would Vikings who engaged in the fun and profit of rape and raiding EVER want to give that up to be farmers? be like someone trading in their Porsche for a Minivan. makes no sense!

Friesland: Its got bays and harbors, some pretty girls (a few of whom give good prophecies. that green cheese though, a bit pungent for a stranger's taste. Recommendations? Visit the statue and hometown of Grute Per, stay warm and dry, try and ignore the McEuropoozy aspect of Nederlands which may intrude from time to time.

Imagine if the vikings were as United and organized as the men of alfred, edward and eathleflead were. History would absolutely be different. Modern day politics could be entirely different. I worship pagan Gods and I'm so incredibly intrigued with the idea of a pagan army and pagan nation. If only.

Paganisme was still very much alive and kicking in the Netherlands all trough the Viking age and long after that. loads of Frisian outlaws participated in raids, to plunder and venge the foreign Christian invasion and the treason of a part of the population.

Wait, you told them that the battle of Cynuit was after Guthrum broke the truce in 878? Okay, I admit it! I lied! Cynuit was not in 877 and I didn't kill Ubbe, that was my friend Lord Odda, the elder. But I did destroy the ships of Svein of the white horse.

Absolutely fascinating! I hope that you will expand on what you have given here, as there is a heck of a lot to take in, in twelve minutes. Many viewers would, I am sure, like to know a great deal more.

Attacking only when you're absolutely sure of winning is NOT 'tactically shrewd' it is the cowardice of a bully. Sociopaths with boats. So it appears the Spaniards weren't the first to lose a fleet.

I'm from modern day Frisia myself (Friesland) and I genuinely learnt some history about my birth region.
Fun fact, Frisian is the closest language to English that's still a living language

Hmm I can't help but think that no matter how bad the Vikings were, having them in charge might have been a better situation for the locals than the Normans were.
