Alexander is a MYTH; he never existed.
There was a Persian general who was the Satrap(governor) of Macedonia named Iskandar who revolted against the Persian emperor(Darius the Third) & took over the power by killing Darius the Third. Iskandar always dressed like Persians, spoke Persian language & he behaved like Persian culture, because he was a Persian. After conquering the Persian empire & killing the Persian emperor (Darius the Third) Iskandar was assassinated in Babylonia by the Greeks whom he had trusted by putting poison in his wine cup. Wine drinkers were Persians; so was Iskandar (Alexander.
And after assassinating Iskandar (Alexander) the Greeks took over the former Persian empire, & created the Helenostic empire(which was a mix of Persian philosophy & Greek philosophy, the origin of Christianity.

Dude that hits so different hearing it in his own language. Being amongst those men bearing the weight of his words would have surely brought them all to their knees begging for forgiveness. In my opinion a top three leader of troops in history at least, if not the greatest. And he accomplished that in a fraction of the time men of his caliber ever did dying at 32 having completed all he said in his speech. One would be hard pressed to find a more accomplished battle commander at 32. Imagine if he had lived to his 50s or 60s this world might not be anything like what it is today.

Look, ok. As much as I'm grateful that this video exists and these people put this much effort on creating something like this for the world for free, I thinking fellow Greeks will agree that the pronunciation is butchered to the bone marrow. Its almost as if the narrator doesn't speak Greek at all, his way of speech is almost, too thick and raw, like a raw piece of wood in a forest waiting yet to be carved into something smooth and elegant. Again, I'm not attacking the narrator, I'm just expressing how it sounds like, not only on this video, but on lots of others around.

I saw the pinned comment regarding the pronunciation changes. I am well aware of them, and of the different pronunciation systems. That is not the issue. I am sorry to say that you do not pronounce it according to any system at all. The stress for example, the easiest thing to nail, is all over the place: MA-ke-do-NON. PA-tros. ME-ga-la. It is the same as me saying in English: MA-ke-do-ni-ANS, fa-THER, ma-SSI-ve. This is happening in almost half of the words.

Most horrible butchering of Greek that I have encountered yet. I speak and read ancient Greek and this was the most horrific narration I have heard. Almost sounds like Norwegian.
The phonetics are horrible. Why not leave the Greek to the Greeks and scholars who pracrice it. English professors not only butchered this video but have bastardized the english translation of Alexander.

I like the English version more. While I don't know Greek, it did sound more like this was read off a script than placing emphasis on certain words like the English version had, losing the emotional charge of the English version. Someone that knows Greek will have to confirm my opinion though since phrase stress might work differently in Greek.

I really appreciate your effort to make more and more accurate but the actor sounds like he is reading sounds rather than reading the actual speech. And the erasmian accent really make it annoying. No matter the result of the sound in the video I am gonna thumbs up it. I really enjoy your efforts to place us next to his soldiers.

Great video! Great effort. Ancient Greek language is the Grandfather of modern Greek but essentially still the same language; the accent is understandably not very good, so it makes it difficult to follow/understand everything; i would love it hear the narration made by a Greek, like Alexander was.

Although I admire the effort, next time, please, please for the love of god use a greek speaking person to say this, not a british one. He killed all the words and its impossible to understand. I speak ancient greek, and that was not even close 1%

Macedonia never saw an army capable of confronting the great Achaemenid Empire. The Achaemenid Empire disintegrated in a civil war. You needed a hero to hide your humiliation behind it, and who better than Alexander, who had won the Civil War.

Alexander was originally an Iranian who won the civil war against the Achaemenid Empire, and Greek historians falsely portrayed Alexander as Macedonian in order to alleviate some of the humiliation of Xerxes' conquest of Athens.

great video, well done for your creativity and the work you have done. But you don't stress the words correctly when pronouncing them. So the text for a Greek who knows Ancient Greek is incomprehensible. Yours sincerely

Holy shit that was great. Thank you so much. I was so shocked when I saw the video pop up. I thought you renamed the other version, then it dawned on me. What an amazing accomplishment. Thank you so much!

Which Alexander? The biggest lie in the history of Alexander the Great, directed and written by Greek historians. Do not be quick to judge, do a little research to find out what lies we are being told

Seeing Alexander the Great speaking in his native Ancient Greek language has always been my dream! It should have been cool to hire a native Greek actor! Greetings from Mexico!
