Six weeks after his bloody repulse at the Battle of Aspern-Essling, Napoleon led his reinforced army back across the Danube. The resulting clash with Archduke Charles's Austrian army was the biggest and bloodiest battle yet seen in European history, and despite heavy French losses, resulted in a decisive strategic victory for the French Emperor

Square defense formations against Cavalry are documented since Spain stablished the Tercio in late 1500; and as Marshall Mcdonalds's men experienced at Wagram their worse enemy was artillery. It is really disappointing to see comments that assume that this formation was Wellington master maneuver while even the french famously resisted the mameluke Camelry attacks using it.

I don't understand this. The enemy clearly has the superior position on the high ground and behind a river, yet Napoleon is like yolo, just charge at them.

0: 24 I think the artist is making some not-so-subtle insinuations about the pope's heritage here. It looks like something that creep Robert Crumb would draw.

This series is too good to be free. My love of history is perhaps the only good thing that came out in the last two years, making it bearable.

Its a shame you have to lessen the dignity of your presentation by shilling such garbage as Vikings War of Clans. Its frankly laughable.

Honestly Arch Duke Charles was one of the most competent enemies of napoleon if not second to wellington. I have much respect for him.

Austria declared war against France in1805 (Austerlitz) and not the opposite, and attacked without declaring war in 1809 (Wagram.

What were the french doing between the battle of Aspern and Wagram? Did they remain at the danube? It is quite some time.
