Sihtric Cech: Scourge of the Irish

Sihtric Cech: Scourge of the Irish jim: You say the Irish threw the Viking Invaders out. I read that these invaders were the aristocracy of Norway who refused to convert to Christianity, and decided to migrate. Some went to Iceland, described by some as a Fishing colony, and some tried their luck in Dublin, where there was at least some night life. They tried to lord it over the locals. Scandinavian and Irish alike. They were resented for their high handed attitudes and had to put to sea again.

Hence how many full blooded Irish still carry the DNA genes of the Vikings of the North. Blonde hair & Blue eyes. The Vikings changed the entire Irish racial bloodlines during these times. For centuries then, the Danes integrated into Irish society & were actually more accepted than looked down upon. To this day, full Irish people still have a close relationship with all of the Northern Danish cultures.

We still love the Vikings in Ireland, we would love to kill them all if they ever returned, they burnt half of Ireland to the ground, still repairing buildings cause of them. We had just about every nord, Sweed, Normans, English, Vikings, Dutch, they all tried and we are still here.

Nial Glundub (Black knee) is the Man all
O Neil's today get their name from. His grandson Muirchertach took his name as an hereditary patronymic surname and the clan came to dominate Ulster up until the battle of kinsale in 1601 and subsequent flight of the Earl's in 1603.

High King Niall Glundubh O'Neill, who attempted to drive Sitric out of Dublin, was killed in that battle I believe, and was carried back to the O'Neill Territory and is believed to be buried at Tullyheron Fort, just down the road from my home! I've gotta take a dectector!

Don't know why your map has half of Scotland in Red like it was taken by Vikings. It wasn't. Some of the Islands were Norse ruled (for a time) apart from that vikings integrated with Scots Gaels on the perimeter of the mainland and became immersed by the Gaels.

CHRIST. Over and over again, it's as if Irish history didn't get started until after the Viking started to screw them over. Irish Piracy predates Viking Piracy, and was just as influential and amazing, but you never ever hear about it.

You've come a long way. 2: 00 Where'd you get that map? Lol, I think someone is hiding a 5in floppy disk of The Oregon Trail for MS DOS for that one.
5: 05 I don't recall playing that level of Super Mario Bros either; )

Would this be the same Sihtric who was involved with the Brian Boru chapter? I know that's a long chapter but I remember that name being among the complicated 5 sided (more or less) drama leading up to that story's climax.

Given the timeline, Sihtric may the grandson or great grandson of SIDROC the Gallgael prince that married Laliva daughter of the eponymous Ivarr. Iver. Iohair. Iver Ragnarrson of the Ui Imair.

Battle of Clontarf 1014 Viking power was broken in Ireland by the High King of the Irish Brian Boru. There is a anti Irish revisionist historical view on this by some but that is just typical revisionist BS

Much of the DNA evidence supports the Ui-Neill as being native Irish with little Norse blood, but you state Sihtric and Ragnar were high kings of the northern Ui-Neill. Is this inconsistent?

As far as I've been able to discover. I'm a direct descendant of Sigtrygg. There's an account claiming he was descendant of Ivar the Boneless, this was a common lie. But if true, I am the male air.

Why did Irish attempts at invasion and colonization of the British isles always seem to fail. I think the Isle of Man still uses an Irish dialect. Were the Irish simply lacking in manpower.
reply

They never ruled ireland and more often than not were defeated in battle by the irish they were expelled twice by the irish and after been beaten at clontarf never regained control

It's so refreshing to hear an Englishman talk about the history and ties between the two islands. I'm only sorry it's taken nearly three years to find this video.

Could you make one of these videos about the Viking called Turgesius? He was one of the first Vikings who went to Ireland.
