Is Gutenberg's printing press still useful? - History Remade with Sabrina
video description
_The Lion having Blue and White for associates will march in a high manner. .. An Old lion will be bound and a young Lion will become free. He will please all those animals that the old had vexed. .. Then shall the Pearl, so long lost, be found by one of humble estate, and will be set as a jewel in gold. It will be given to the Prince of all beasts, that is, to the right Lion. He will hang it about his neck, and wear it with honour. He will resist the Bear and the Wolf, and rend them asunder; so that the Beasts of the forest shall be safe. Then will the Old Art flourish and no heed will be given to the New. Then will the New World begin and the White and the Black shall disappear. _

Wait, I thought we were supposed to hate 15th century white men like Gutenberg and Columbus. And whether or not it's true, we're supposed say that it was invented or discovered by some brown person somewhere in the country of Not-Europe. I'm sure Gutenberg had some values and ideas about women and brown people that are not consistent with those of our current time! He must be cancelled, and instead of Printing Press, we need to call it the Indigenous People's Press! What's going on here! Racist much.

A potatoe is easier to carve than a little candle. You got through smooshing the ink (pouncing) the ink on your ink balls ( brayers) and got it to transfer. Congratulations. P. S. -'Twould be excellent, dearest ladies, if thou shouldst undertake to execute a span of illumination to inform our weary eyes with such beautious display. - Thanks! Oh!
Have you made a camera obscura yet?

I worked at a print shop with older printing presses in there and it was just so cool seeing how printers worked before computers. The 100 year old paper cutter was not work safe, nor did it cut completely straight, but oof it kept me working for an abusive boss for longer than I should have. Just such a cool industry with such brilliant machines.

My only question is how does the platten actually apply pressure to the paper? It seemed not to be as connected as I would have thought. Grateful for the content and the reminder that making mistakes and adjustments can be met with humor instead of negativity. Lord knows my own woodworking projects have gone wrong often enough on the first try.

Alright if you are going to have your crew wear masks but you don-t then what-s the point? It-s a blatant double standard. One person-s job should not make them above the rules that everyone else has to follow. Really hope no one got sick.

FYI to provide little more details, the movable type metal printing press was invented in Korea in 1234 by Chwe Yoon Eyee during the Goryeo Dynasty -216 years ahead of Gutenberg in 1450. The book of Jickji Heart proves it.

SO much history omitted by this little video. It's nice to see that you are learning about the mechanics of the process, sad that the reason for the use of this press was left out.

Might be cool if yall did something a bit more chemical or something. Like, make a battery. And then an incandescent light bulb too the way tesla or whatever would have done it

I think you'd be fascinated by the scale of modern printing presses. The one I work on is 2 stories tall and as long as a small apartment building.

Good video but I think the goofiness distracts from the presentation. Nevertheless, always good to know a bit more historical facts everyday.

Can we get a blue print/ diagram to create the press for ourselves? Or is there somewhere you got the design for the press that you can share?

Elevators are an interesting study. From the first rope lift 'death traps' to Otis' 'Safety Elevator', and the many types of lifting systems.

My daughter and I are loving watching History Remade. She would like to see you make the Eiffel Tower. I vote for an Enigma machine.

If you hadn't done this already, this was going to be my suggestion for your next episode. It's awesome that it works so well!

You're supposed to print indulgences and sell them for a profit.
Not that it would lead to trouble or anything.
