What a Samurai vs. Mongol Battle Really Looked Like - History Dose Bar: Mongols could have taken into account an attrition war on evil lands so they had to finish the war as early as possible. They should have found deeper plains to drive their horses and the should have standed to increase their means for a last standing invasion. Uncut routes from China and its endless human and equipment resources supports whole Japan invasion easily. Japans account is a matter of sea lines of communication issue and it s weird why Mongols couldnt have fixed this problem.

There's actually more evidence nowadays pointing to the actual invasion as a failure. The storm was simply an excuse by the mongols to save face. The mongols were not idiots which should be obvious to anyone that have read their conquests, they did extensive research about weather conditions, sent spies hidden as traders to mark down the weak points of defenses and the best place to land a large invasion force, etc etc.
However an invasion by sea is EXTREMELY complicated and expensive, building the ships alone to transport such a large army cost them a fortune and actually put a dent in their treasury. The japanese islands were simply too compact to take, and in a compact/tight area it's very easy for the defender to fight off an army double its size. Also keep in mind that the japanese could simply focus on one front, supplying it with ease because they control all the land around it. while the mongols had to transport the supplies and reinforcements by sea.
If Japan was somehow connected to Korea, then yeah the mongols would have conquered them with ease. But having to supply a huge army by sea when they are actively fighting a war with losses mounting on a daily basis without conquering any meaningful land? No, literally impossible.

Before watching the video the way I recall it there wasn't much of a fight. Between the sabotage of the boats by the Chinese, taking the wrong boats (flat bottomed river boats on the ocean) and significant weather (tsunami. The few invaders that made it to Japan were dispatched fairly quickly on the beaches or nearby. EDIT- After the video, it's amazing what one remembers when seeing a full historical accounting.

The invasion of Japan was carried out by allied forces, not Mongols alone. As the son-in-law nation of the Great Yuan Khanate, Goryeo played a critical role in the invasion of Japan, much more than that of perished Song dynasty. Passing over Goryeo in this video is quite inappropriate.

First of all, it is not Mongol vs Samurai. It is Yuan, although the ruler is Mongols. Yuan's army is much weaker than the pure Mongol army. Especially this invasion force is a mix of Chinese Han people with very low morale and an even weaker Korean army with few Mongols.

No expert here: but Ive heard this from multiple expert sources: These fights dont last more than seconds one on one. Highly trained, highly accurate. Battle of physical and mental stamina, flurry of quick moves, then its over. Much respect.
reply

no disrespect to the Japanese warriors but if Japan wasn't an island surrounded by dangerous ocean hazards, the mongols would have consumed their territory swiftly and without too much casualties. Japan had nature to assist them in battle.

A samurai vs A mongol? Did that ever happen? If it did the samurai would wipe the floor with them. Army vs army I think is what really happened and they didnt have so much success in Japan so it didnt really work en masse either
reply

Interesting fact:
the word kamikaze ( divine wind) has its original meaning in describing the winds or rather storms that kept Japan from being invaded by the Mongols (obviously much earlier than the suicide plane attacks in wwII)

reply

save the trouble watching. if invasion did occur Japan would be doomed. samurai although very skilled warriors do not know how to fight in large organised battles like the Yuan. avg height of samurai at the time 150-160cm.
reply

Mongols would've bent the samurais over. Too much propaganda and nonsense surrounding samurais. Even the katana is actually a horrible sword but people think it has divine power or something bc of anime lmao
reply

This is cool and all, but you forgot how Jin Sakai literally ended the mongol invasion while also having time to chase foxes, bathing in hot springs and having epic duels with ronins, just sayin.
reply

what i find cool is that in Ghost of Tsushima, when you activate the Ghost Stance, the weather changes to a storm.
at least, i remember that happening

reply

Smurai killed Mongol messengers whenever they came.
They did not know that the letter of the third time messenger was the messenger of reconciliation.

reply

Great video: thanks for the upload. However, why didn't you mention how the typhoons were later referred to by the Japanese as 'Kamikaze'?
reply

Actually, before every attacks the Mongols sent letters to peacefully submit to them, if they accepted then no brutal things will happen
reply

The typhoon which made Mongols to retreat is what we called as Kamikaze, literally means god wind and this is where the term Kamikaze came from.
reply

Truly incredible, I myself usually take a break between the first and second invasion and let the PS5 cool down and refresh myself.
